I'm looking for compact device with buttons (D-pad, start, select, and few more buttons to play), and support emulation. At least NES, but better if there more (SMD, GB).

All sorts of "game players with 112 built in games" does not count.

Smallest I could find - 2.8inch Screen DV MP4 MP5 Game Player.

If you know similar compact devices - please share.

those things only play nes (and gameboy with a little luck, they have different firmwares). also suffers a bit from weird button mapping if i remember correctly.

but yeah, actually ive been searching for keychain sized emulation handhelds or slightly larger too, but didnt find anything yet ): only option i saw yet was to buy an android watch (super expensive, about 180? at least) and get a bluetooth controller and external battery.
or we could start a kickstarter/indiegogo project :p

The biggest problem with a GBA is you need a flash card.
The Dingoo A320 is only a little bigger and much more capable.

I have the two consoles.

A flascart for GBA micro is very cheap about 25? for ezflash IV or about 10? for supercard.

Dingoo itis a little big compared with GBA micro, but dingoo emulates more systems, for example Megadrive/genesis with lion emulator are incredible.

The worst in dingoo is the problem with the full screen scaling of GBA emulator that arruins color palletes and aspect ratio.

There are a number of devices with a similar form factor to what Fazoor posted, but most are "no name". The only one I've seen where the manufacturer was proud enough of their work to put their brand name on it was the JXD 100. Reviews are generally favorable, but finding it new these days might be difficult. Some sellers on alibaba claim to still have it in stock, but will want bulk orders.

That's quite an impressive list of emulators for the GBA!

Dingoo A320 still gets my vote as the most "complete" and portable device. There are so many awesome emulators out there. And I'm hardly ever using Dingux on it as the native OS alone offers so many great opportunities.

I believe it would be hard to beat a PSP or PSPGO. Not only can it run tons of emulators and PC games, but also Playstation 1 and PSP games, giving you a huge library. You can surf the net and stream audio with it's built in WIFI. You can connect several PSPs together for multi-player games.
You can hack a PSP within minutes by just transferring a couple files to the memory card. Speaking of memory, you can have 32gb on a PSPGO, and up to 64gb on a regular PSP (that's a lot of storage for music, videos, and games).
The PSPGO has bluetooth and video out so you can play hooked up to a big screen TV and control it wirelessly from across the room with a PS3 controller.
One last thing, you will have a product made by SONY, so it's a quality product.
I have just scratched the surface of what a PSP can do. If anyone has any questions on hacking a PSP or anything else PSP related, you need only to ask.

Sorry, this is an older thread but I wanted to post my experience with the JXD 100. I thought for the price and size it was great. I had a lot of fun with it. It had some issues such as saving the game state on GameBoy games didn't work (which is too bad since I really wanted that feature to work) but most of the other emulator game states worked. It was sluggish with a few Genesis games but most played quite well. SNES games were mostly too sluggish and there weren't enough buttons to really play those games well. A few SNES games were fine, though.

My biggest disappointment with it, though, was that the battery life was terrible. I thought that if they just bumped the specs up just a little (so SNES ran good), added a couple more buttons and increased the battery life that it'd be the perfect little portable emulator. I would love for JXD to release another version of this.

I have the JXD100 too. Nice little device.......fits nicely in the shirt pocket. Make sure all your GameBoy + GameBoy color ROMS have the .gbc extension. You should be able to save then.

Not likely to happen, it's all about the Android tablets now... But Android smart watches are also becoming more popular lately. Remember those Nelsonic video game wristwatches from the 1980s? Make an Android watch with similar design (face buttons, mini joystick), and we'd have a new contender for "Smallest device with buttons and emulation support".

Was browsing tinydeal.com and remembered this thread when I saw this:

A bit vague on what games it actually plays, the description says "Built-in 1000 kniget rider games for your choices".

From looking at the box, I'd guess this is made by the same company that made the PAP-Gameta. Who knows if it's got one of their cruddy chipset/OS, or is it a proper SPMP8k... If someone has $22.89USD to spare, get one and let us know!

Oddest thing about this particular redesign, the camera has been replaced with a laser light...

Mom always said those video games would ruin your eyes, this thing could very well prove her right!

I just managed to nab a genuine, new in box JXD 100 from eBay for $31 (with free shipping). And it was from a seller in California, so I didn't have to wait forever and a week to get it either. SCHWEET.

Despite my history of collecting Chinese handheld games, this is my first JXD. The closest thing I've had to a JXD before is the Eachgame 1000 (an upgraded version of the JXD 3000). My first impression is good. It feels light, but solidly built. The analog nub for a d-pad takes a little getting used to, but it's not too bad. The small dead zone makes it easy to quickly change direction, although it can be tricky to know precisely which direction you're pressing. The buttons are pretty responsive (maybe TOO responsive, often when entering a folder in the file explorer, the first file inside that folder gets selected before you even see it). The single speaker isn't that great, but it is loud enough. The screen is bright and clear with good viewing angles. Now I just need to hunt down a JXD 200B and A3300 for under $40...

Looks like it might be a little bit smaller than the others. No camera/laser, also seems to have lost the Select button (with the ESC button in the shape and position you'd expect the Select button to be). While most other knock-offs have circular buttons, this one has the same rounded triangle shape as the JXD. The description claims "support 8-32bit GBA/SFC/ SNES/FC/NES/MD/MVS/NEO-GEO/CPS1/CPS2/LynGOO/GBC games". I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess this is copy/pasted from the Dingoo A330 descripiton, rather unlikely this plays arcade or Lynx games.

it can play nes/gbc, but tv out lags too much. also it has an experimental snes emulator (only one button + dpad work and its like 1fps

)
it didnt save button layouts, but it did support ingame saving (or via menu? dont really remember sorry).
so for some pokemon, zelda or the like on the go its very nice.

the third one is nonexistent to my knowledge. i had ordered one of them before and got the one above.
but technically they are the same, just a different design (much more appealing tho imo).

the last ones os i know as well. was your typical spmp8k alike. did play most things pretty well, if i remember correctly even lighter snes games.
