thank you very much ;D

Amazing job! Thank you!
Can I upgrade from release 2019.05.17? Should I upgrade to 2019.06.01 first?

You should be able to upgrade from 2019.05.17 too.

Sadly mine suffered from charging troubles, lines on screen and finally died when trying to fix it...
-
OK, flashed succesfully and after some playtime no crashes! However I did run into the following problems:
- Handy Temper does not seem to work, tried both from internal memory as microSD (fresh download from gameblabla)
- I was also unable to use the USB (both ethernet and mass storage). I used macOS and filezilla.
Does this problem also occur for other users?
EDIT: I mixed up the emulator names :'( Handy works just fine but Temper does not. My apologies for the confusion.

Gameblabla compiles his apps statically with his own toolchain for bogus reasons even though I told him repeatedly that all his apps will likely break on updates. I guess you'll have to wait until he recompiles everything.

FTP (with FileZilla) is gone. On OSX, you should be able to transfer files in mass storage mode with Android's Filetransfer: https://www.android.com/filetransfer/

I'll look into it and see what's wrong with it and report back. I believe it's unrelated to it being statically built. (it was leaking memory before and steward's apps, despite being built with the shared toolchain, are no longer working either so it's jumping the guns on your part to claim that's the issue unless you did a major change to the kernel).

Thank you for confirming. I'll try with Android Filetransfer.

Thank you for looking into it. Which apps of steward's are you referring to? I tested the emulators included in the OpenDingux release and yours and all except for temper seem to work...
-
I have taken a look at Handy and the stable version was working fine on my unit...
No idea why it would crash because it wasn't crashing on my unit.
I still issued some other fixes as well as a fix for Zendocan's laugh to Handy though so feel free to try the new build.

Temper also does not work ? Or was it just Handy ?
I was talking about PocketSNES and PCSX4ALL btw. Steward later removed the releases and said that he should have not bothered with those. lol...

Oh, sorry, I mixed up the names of the emulators!!! Temper did not function, Handy worked just fine :-P
Sorry for the confusion, I'll also edit my original post.

Hmm, haven't tried the old Temper OPK but i recompiled it again and it still works fine and Supergrafx games are running smoothly now too.
Were you trying to play CD games ? If so which one ?
I would suggest that you try downloading the new OPK from my website as always as i recompiled it and reprofiled it.

Thanks for checking and recompiling! I'll check tonight after work (UTC/GMT+1h)

Nice work thanks!!!

Great job, with what I've been trying for now; the system is very stable, but logically certain problems have appeared, the ports of doom, hexen, heretic and wolfenstein cause shutdowns and end up restarting the system (watchdog already works xD), the battery is still showing not accurate, is there any way calibrate it manually?
Thanks for all the effort and dedication to this machine :)

I tried with 5 different USB cables and went tens of times trough the USB settings menu but the best I get is that the USB connection is being recognized by Android's Filetransfer which then generates the the error 'Can't connect: check your connection or reboot the device' (wording may differ as I get this error in Dutch). I think something broke so I try to flash the unit from scratch and apply the update. Perhaps something broke as I applied the update from the external SD instead of the internal memory....

I tried the new compiled Temper OPK but still no succes. I think I broke something during the update process and will try again from scratch... However, thanks for all the effort :-)
-
Succes!! During my attempts to connect the RS-90 to my mac over USB i noticed that when I made the connection the screen showed a little 'flicker' and some lines. As this is often due to grounding issues (different ground potential of the battery vs the USB port) I thought, why not try with the battery removed. And it worked! I could acces the internal memory, clean up the .temper folder and installed the latest build from gameblabla! PCE games work now and I can acces the internal memory to update OPK's and such.
So, for everyone who has USB connection issues: try without a battery in the unit!

After having tried the update for a few days, I am sorry to say that I have detected several problems that the emulators included ReGBA also suffer lowered frame rates and loss of smoothness in the game, especially in games with scrolling, platforms, races, action in general ... doing overclock improves something but still does not feel smooth.
Even homebrew games that used to be very fluid like Hocoslamfy (flappy bird clone) are now no longer fluid, so they are no longer just the ports of id software, doom, heretic, hexen, wolf3d...
Now it seems that the RS-90 has trouble moving the system and games at the same time. Which makes me wonder, wouldn't it have been possible to solve the bug that caused sd crashes without changing the linux?
I am sorry to comment on these problems, but the loss of performance in this update I think is important.
-
If you telnet inside the rs90, and do: sudo swapoff /dev/zram0
Does it work any better afterwards?
-
Almost null crashes, I currently have problems with ports such as doom, hexen and heretic, otherwise, excellent update, in my case I have not noticed slowdowns, if slowdowns in the menu when moving through the different categories.
-
I have tested it with "sudo swapoff / dev / zram0", to do so I have enabled a password that asked for telnet, there is not much change in speed or fluidity, almost imperceptible, the only difference is that some of the applications that use more ram leave to work if it is deactivated :-\
-
Are you Dr. Slump on my blog or is it someone else?
You'll have to make a comparison video or something, here ReGBA works just as good on the new firmware as it did on the 2019.05.17 one. Same amount of FPS, same smoothness.
You're using my ReGBA port (https://boards.dingoonity.org/retrominirs-90/regba-2019-04-30-for-retromini-rs-90-(opendingux)/), right?
-
Yes, I use your ReGBA port, I also use the other user, I could not use it in this forum but it is my usual identifier :) I think you have done a great job on this machine when many did not even want to work for it and went to others more expensive systems.
I take this opportunity to comment that when updating, custom screen backgrounds are lost, I think the folder is deleted when updating, however the added themes if they remain.
I have to remember again where the wallpapers went to put them back, I think I forgot where they went xD
It would be great if there was a thread in the forum where all the downloads available for the console appeared, updated of course, since it is a little crazy to go looking for all the threads if someone has updated or added a new port or game. I say this in case someone reads me and takes note xD
If you allow me the question, could I ask you something related to ReGBA? Games that don't work like Bubble Bobble: Old & New or the NES Classics for GBA among other games, can they ever work in this emulator? In PC or Android emulators these games have no problems for many years ago, do you think it will ever be updated to support them?
Thank you for putting the link to your ReGBA again.
Regards!

ReGBA is great because it runs really well on minimal hardware. It's also been nicely upgraded over the last few years. Some of that being reflected in the RS-90 build, and some not so much. That said, the NES Classics are stupidly hardware intensive and you're almost always better off running the NES versions when possible. A handful of other games just don't work, or don't work well. It really is a great choice for about 95% of roms, it's just the other little bit that isn't good. That said, individual dev work on this device is pretty sparse, and the system itself isn't really strong enough for some of the GBA emulators with higher compatibility. Short version of my long-winded reply is basically, that what we have for the device is great, and I wish we'd get more. That said, I am not sure there is a lot to expect moving forward.

Custom skins and wallpapers no longer appear, and they are in the usual folders, what is the new route? any solution? ::)

Is the new path.

hi, I seem to be the only one who has had a panic kernel with the latest update.
The rootfs does work for me, but not the kernel, my RS90 is v21.
I tried to update both by flasher and by update, but it doesn't work.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but I just want to know if the Gameboy emulator will get better on the rs-90 or is it the best we will ever get?

Is inserting/ejecting a tf card while the device is turned on supported? Also, this topic should probably be stickied instead of the 2019 release topic.
-
Well, hello everybody. I'm new to the OpenDingux scene. To tell the truth, am new to the RetroMini scene too. Just got mine on Monday, seen the shitty original firmware, and how bad it performs on it's "only purpose" of emulating GBA or whatever. Frustrating. Started to look for an alternative, in order to not tosse fire on this well-built cute little machine and found this forum. Flashed the most recent OD version and, for god sakes, why the hell isn't it shipped with this incredible firmware? (Thanks for that @pcercuei, great job, incredible. Not all heroes wear a cape, but you should.)
But I've got some recurring issues and, well, I guess reporting it may throw some light on a possible bug or - considering I'm new to it and understand nothing of the subject - may get some help to solve it.
Every now and then, when turning the RetroMini on, something happens during OpenDingux loading and it just stucks on a black screen with a white dash. Restarting the unit through the physical power switch often solves the problem. Is there any way to avoid it?
Eventually things get stuck on another screen: something about SDL. Also solved via physical power switch restart. What's that and, again, is there a way to avoid it?
Running the Hynix, v2.1 RS-90.
-
This did happen with my unit as well, didn't grab a screenshot but very sure about that SDL/no video part. And now that I think about it, I also had that stuck on white dash screen, thought it was caused by the tf card being inserted while booting, but maybe not.
I have a 2.1 unit too (flashed with the 2.1 flasher).
-
Suppose you're talking about this.
-
Suppose you're talking about this.
happens often to me too
-
Yes, a black screen with the underscore/dash just being stuck, no blinking.
-
I also have both black screen with underscore or SDL error popping up sometimes. When it boots to menu it runs perfectly. Great work.
-
i know one tip, how to fix this:
when the booboo occurs, then turn the device off and back on, or take the battery out and put it after that back in.
-
Ok. So, for now, there's no way to solve and/or avoid it. Thanks for the answer.

Hello!
I flashed 2020.1.6 v3.0 on my Retromini. As far as overall performance, do you think it is better for me to keep this version or to reflash 2019 May version? I am using ReGBA only. Thank you in advance!
EDIT: I tried myself and, so far, 2019.05.17 is my cup of tea. Zram gives unexpected issues to ReGBA, which runs flawlessly on 2019.05.17.
Tried:
The Legend of Zelda - The Minish Cap
Sword of Mana
Pokemon Emerald
Wario Land 4
Crash Bandicoot 2 - N Tranced
And sound glitches are far fewer than 2020.01.06. Will try Final Fantasy VI Advance, which was totally unplayable on 2020.01.06.
