Just a heads up i got my extended battery today test trialing it out see how it performs.I hope it last so far so good thanks to lemmywinks for the link and stuff.

Hello,  I'm wondering how the battery test went.  How long does the factory default last vs. the new one?

Also.  Is this the battery you bought for the RS-97:

YCheck out what I found. Retroflag NESPi NES Style Case for Raspberry Pi 3, 2, and B+ Computer Case New http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Retroflag-NESPi-NES-Style-Case-for-Raspberry-Pi-3-2-and-B-Computer-Case-New-/202160712152?roken=cUgayN via @eBay_UK

Is it the same for the PAP KIII Plus?

Thanks in advance!

I don't believe the battery you posted would be compatible with the RS-97, it uses the "Battery: Replaceable BL-5B 890 mh (standard old Nokia phone)." The highest capacity compatible battery I was able to find was this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Replacment-BL-5B-3-7V-1390mAh-Battery-For-Nokia-N90-3230-5300-5070-6121-6080/371779975725?hash=item568fd03a2d:g:fh8AAOSwKfVXDcAc

Yep this is the battery i am still testing looking good has not dropped any bars yet.

Would it be a good idea to upload somewhere all the apps/emulators that already work/have been ported? Like Jack83 alternative emulators, seagal?s ohboy, lemmywinks?findings ...

Maybe we can add a category for the rs97/pk3p here? (http://www.openhandhelds.org/index.php) and link it in the original post so the info is not scattered

I rebuilt the gpsp GBA emulator with this source:
https://github.com/dmitrysmagin/gpsp-rzx50

It can run well with better screen scaling. Just extract to your root folder of your sd card and run gpsp.dge from root folder:

How exactly do I get dmenu to work?
I run the installer and it exits after about a second, and all the dmenu switcher does is give me a black screen until I reset

I can't seem to run Iridion II or DKC 2 off of Jack83's GBA emulator, it goes to a black screen. Add DKC 3 and Steel Empire to that as well.

So I just installed Jack83's Open Dingux so I have gpsp already. How exactly do I replace it with yours?

Got dmenu to work!
Damn, this is a MUCH better interface lol. Also GB/C finally doesn't look and sound like absolute trash! gnuboy's sound is still slightly off but this is much better.

Would you or anyone be so kind as to write a detailed guide for the laymen, that isn't very technical or hard to understand so others could install it as well? Would very much appreciate it! :)

That would be very helpful for guys like me who just got involved in this handheld area.  My RS-97 is being shipped.  I'd love to get the most out of it with a better menu, emulators, firmware...

At this point, I've read this entire thread and still not sure where to start.

Could everything be put in a folder, we add the games... Pop it on an SD card an away we go.

I'm thinking it's more complex than that.

I know it takes time to put together a guide, but newcomers, like me, would surely appreciate it.

I could add to the community by testing and giving feedback.

You can start here: https://github.com/JackD83/dmenu At the bottom is the readme how to install the new menu. Make sure you use the correct files for the RS97 from the release folder at the top.

That is very helpful and easy to understand.  I think I won't have problems following those steps when my unit arrives!  Thanks a lot.

Two questions. I saw that someone posted on how to expand the internal SD card 4gb to 32gb.

In what situations would this be useful?
And does the RS-97 accept any size SD card (64 or 128gb)

Yes that was me i am sure you can use any size card as long as it is formatted to fat32. I guess you can instal all your stuff on internal rather than external sd once open dingux is ported soon. You will be better off with a bigger internal card like gcw has 32gb internal on SE Models.

Ohboy is a better emulator, there was a fixed .dge of it a few pages back. I just leave it in my GB rom folder and launch it from there, crashes when you save setting at the moment though.

You could do that right now with some tweaks. Problem is you can screw up and then have to open the device to reset it.
I did not want to be responsible for that ;D

@Jack83 the alternative cps emu doesn't work with the original roms, nor do the neo roms. Which sets would work? Been follow this thread for a while, just joined. :D

Yep, same here. Although I didn't have the time to check where the script was looking for bios and such (that's most likely the issue)
Funny enough, the stock cps and SNES emulators are actually really freaking good. The latter especially is at a correct resolution (or really freaking close) and it can run a lot of games full speed. I was impressed when it ran a translated shin megami tensei rom.
I'm sounding like a broken record here but this little thing has a ton of potential. Lets just hope it cashes out.
Thankfully there's a lot of interest brewing in handheld emulation these days, what with nintendo releasing the NES and SNES classic but at high price and very low availability.
The RS-97 looks like it's gonna be available for a long time (generic parts and the revo shell is a basic mold that's fully licensed from what I've been reading, I think the 1ghz ingenic chip is hard to source compared to the 600mhz one in the RS-97) and I would say it's priced just right.

All we really need is the software (already being worked on by some cool dudes) a couple of youtube videos showing it off and boom, hopefully this community can be rebuilt from the ashes of the GCW zero
