Any opinion on whether any one version is better than another? Are the later versions actual improvements or do you think it is simply a matter of the manufacturer changing parts suppliers? Are the screens noticeably different?

I think its just when stock is depleted of a certain screen they find another model hence changing to a different model but there are minor improvment.

Revision D might improve battery life. My understanding the is B version of the cpu is a die shrink so it will likely consume less power. The question is if it will even be noticeable. Also that version is currently unreleased.

Hey All,

Mine states following in the settings:

About This Unit
Model: LN430
U Disk Capacity: 3.27GB
U Disk Available Capacity 159MB (Deleted the music video etc)
Version V3.12

I assume this is a 1.2 (Just checking before I Flash / Brick my device) but to be honest the Version Number is just off screen but I assume it is 3.12 (Could be 3.17 but doubt it)

Could this be a fake / clone as It cost ?37 from ebay about 2 months ago (arrived yesterday) I am pretty sure that fake / clone A230's hit the market....

Take the battery out and tell us what version it says on the mother board.

As I already said in the guide thread:
Mh no, this is just your stock firmware version. I don't have an RS-97 yet, but I assume that this is the only possibility.
If you want to know which hardware version you have see the guide in the first post :)

"First of all you need to know which RS-97 version you own. Don't worry, it's extremely easy! To accomplish this you only need to remove the battery cover and then the battery of your device, at this point you will see (written on the PCB) something like "RETRO-GAME-V*.*" followed by a date, like this example photo."

Any idea yet whether the new screen types resolve the performance issues associated with the weird resolution?

Thanks again... I think I will drop a 32GB Micro SD Card in and try the battery mod... I have a spare GCW battery. I have ordered another one in case I break this one.... ;)

You might well be right, according to this document:
https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/pub/Main/IngenicJz47xx/JZ4760B_an01_vs4760.pdf

Quote
1  Change from JZ4760
Compared  to  JZ4760,  there  are  some  improvement  in  JZ4760B  such  as  smaller  die  size,
higher  performance  (enough  power  supply  for  whole  chip),  IO  driven  strength  controllable
which  is  good  for  eliminating  EMC/EMI  issue,  OTP  available,  higher  internal  bus  efficiency
which results in better support for large panel display and multi-media play, picture enhancing,
more EPD panel support, frame compress/de-compress support, etc.

2  Hardware  Compatibility
JZ4760B  is  pin-to-pin  compatible  with  JZ4760,  so  the  product  designed  with  JZ4760  can  be
replaced by JZ4760B directly. Since the JZ4760B support OTP function, if the user want to use
this function in assembly, the hardware design should be a little fine-tune

Section 3 also describes other improvements, but section 1 hints it will be more power efficient, and section 2 hints that since it's fully backward compatible, OpenDingux should still work(?).

I'll be waiting for this revision to shell out my cash myself.

Anyone have any idea what a group creation screen might be? google is giving me no relevant results.
