Do you ever cheat on games?
« on: December 07, 2009, 11:53:20 am »
Recently, I found myself cheating on 'Super Star Wars' for the SNES. I wanted desperately to see the Death Star trench level. But there are so many games on the Dingoo to be played, and so little time, that I couldn't bring up the patience to play through the whole game to see the ending. Pity though that one needs a second controller for the 'level skip cheat' to actually get it to work... Maybe there's a PC version of snes9x that generates the same game-saves which I can then copy to my Dingoo.

By the way: what ever got into Lucas arts to develop such a large game without the possibility to enter level pass-codes? You have to take a day off from work every time you want to fight the Death Star because you have to play through the whole game. Aaaaarghhh.

Anyway: do you cheat on games on 'yer Dingoo?  ;D
Finally got me a new Dingoo after I Kentucky ~~::fried::~~ the other one. Yippee! [edit] And lost it!

I never cheat in games.
Moreover, I find the emulator saves (as opposed to in-game saves) as a form of cheating :)
You can't claim you've beaten the game if you used to save-scum during the harder parts of the game ;)

Does reading the odd FAQ count?

All of the Scumm games I've played have been ruined by walkthroughs. On the good side: I almost forgot all of them to play fair again.

Hmmm. If you lost the original user manual and you want to know all the right moves: I think not. If you mean a walkthrough: I think yes. ;)

To me, it all depends on how you use emulator saves.  I personally use them as a way of saving my progress when I need to stop playing.  It replaces having to leave the console on all night, like I did when I was a kid :-)

So in a way, you could say that emulator saves are helping save our environment too  :P

Wouhaa. It also helps saving your consoles. When I was young, I finally reached one of the last levels of Hero on the Atari 2600. I left it on all night to continue playing the next morning, just like you did. Next morning: Atari 2600 dead.

I agree. ;) But when I was a kid (about 20.000 years ago) there only was the almighty Atari 2600. Well, you had the Vectrex and the Magnavox Odyssey 2 (i.e. the bloody Philips Videopac) but they sucked even more!  ;D

I usually dont cheat on games unless they're really pissing me off.  Or until i play it through the first time and then replay it.

For example im cheating on my second play through Half Life 2.  But I beat the game the first time through with no cheats whatsoever.  Its fun getting the pulse rifle right in the beginning of the game. :D

Agreed. When I replay a game I do not want to go through the boring bits again. There are some exceptions, like 'Prince of Persia 2 - The shadow and the flame'. It doesn't have any boring bits. :)

Cheaters ALWAYS win!!! :P

No, I only cheat on games I have already beaten without cheating...and even then, only on long RPG's...I cheat by using savestates in strategic places.

Well, I remember cheating in the Starcraft solo campaign -- I was a kid, and really sucked at video games :P
But a few years later, I played it again, and after finishing I thought -- so it was that easy ? And since then I never cheated anymore.

Also, I think emulator saves are really cheating, unless when you stop playing of course. I introduced my little sister into emulation on Windows (yay) and I'm absolutely despaired when I see she spends her time pressing those f**king F5/F7 keys :D

Depends what the cheats are for, I used cheats in spyro Gateway To Glimmer to make his head huge... ;D Good Times
Don't usually becuase I don't get the satisfaction of completing a game when I cheat, like when I cheated with level skip on abe's oddyssey and got the bad ending... :-\

I did cheat a lot when I began gaming and I also used save states several times a level when I played Mega Man and it was absolutely unimaginable to me how you're supposed to go through it without dieing 100 times. But now I beat it fairly and try not to cheat. Saving progress and messing around is the only difference and only if the game is actually paused and I could theoretically just let the console run.

When playing mame or other arcade games I use a "4 credit" rule. I insert 4 credits and thats all I'm allowed.
