New FBA based on v0.2.97.44
« on: December 26, 2019, 03:57:00 pm »
Just saw DIYgamemodz's youtube video running FBA on the RG350.

<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20200926221508/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZkAdWfOxOo" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZkAdWfOxOo</a>

It appears he's using a newer build of FBA emulator based on 0.2.97.44. So far I've only seen versions based on 0.2.97.35.

Anyone know where I can download that copy of FBA? It appears to run SFIII 3rd Strike (a CPS3 game) at around 14 fps compared to 3 fps on my older FBA build.

Improves compatibility with other games or only with the sf3?

Hmm...

Ok, up till now I thought the FBA runs most of the arcade games at 60 fps or close to it, except for the CPS3 games which runs at only a few fps, but the longer I tried it the more games I found with significant frame drops. So it appears in addition to CPS3 there are other hardware that the RG350 cannot emulate at full speed.

In the new FBA, there is a new option for hardware scaling which had 3 settings to choose from: off, aspect & fullscreen. I always thought HW upscale takes minimal impact on the CPU but here it looks to affect some games' performance, drastically affecting frame rates.

Looks like need to play with the settings for each individual game to get the best performance.

The new FBA increases frame rates on most games by 10-20%.

However, FBA on JZ4770 devices (like the RG350) can't play CPS3, most IREM, PGM and psikyo games at decent frame rates.

There are are many 90's Sega games that play poorly - but Mame4All handles these and the aforementioned ones somewhat better.

Im using the Rogue fw and cps3 is just about playable at around 20 fps with full screen hw scaling . Sega games have however taken a major hit hence would keep the original version of fba for those atm

I wish I knew how to change the name of the emulator directories in the home folder so I can run multiple versions of the same emulators without affecting the configs / set up of each version. That would solve your issue and you could the both versions running side by side.

I have no idea how to do it or if is even possible :(

That's what I noticed too. Even though I can run the 2 versions separately, they seem to share the same config/settings file.

If you run 350teric as your skin manager, it gives you the ability to rename program files by hitting the select button and choosing edit.

Awesome... I will give it a go :) Thanks for the reply

EDIT - I tried to edit some files but it  did not change the folder name in the "Home" directory...

Should this allow me to run multiple versions of the same emulator with different directory names in the "Home" folder for the config settings ? If so could you make a quick guide of what needs to be changed ?

For example:

PCSX4ALL
PCSX4ALL2
PCSX4ALL3
PCSX4ALL4

etc etc

Thanks

Hey ace9094,
Go into ~/.esoteric/sections/emulators
find the one for PCSX4ALL, called something like 'default.gcw0.desktop-pcsx4all.desktop' depending on what flavour of pcsx4all you have installed.,

copy it to a new name that makes sense, like : default.gcw0.dir1-pcsx4all.desktop

then edit it and change the title to something logical,  and these 2

selectorDir=/media/sdcard/some/roms
selectorFilter=

Hi Podulator,

thanks for replying....

I have changed the sections and Icons for my RG-350 by using Open Package Creator.

Here is the PCSX4ALL file from esoteric: This was the closest I could find but it does not mention the .pcsx4all desktop folder :( Any idea?

Here is the PCSX4ALL file from esoteric:

# 350teric X-tended desktop file
# lines starting with a # are ignored

title=PS-One
description=Playstation Emulator
icon=/media/data/local/home/.esoteric/cache/images/PS-One/pcsxr-icon-small.png
exec=/usr/bin/opkrun
params=-m default.gcw0.desktop "/media/data/apps/PS-One.opk"
selectorDir=/media/sdcard
selectorFilter=
selectorAlias=
manual=
workdir=
X-Provider=/media/data/apps/PS-One.opk
X-ProviderMetadata=default.gcw0.desktop
consoleapp=false

Here is the file from pcsx4all OPK

[Desktop Entry]
Name=PlayStation
Comment=Playstation Emulator
Exec=pcsx4all -iso %f
Terminal=false
Type=Application
StartupNotify=true
Icon=pcsxr-icon-small
Categories=1 Consoles;
X-OD-NeedsDownscaling=true

Hey again.. I have tried many things to get this working with no luck...
# 350teric X-tended desktop file
# lines starting with a # are ignored

title=PlayStation TEST
description=PlayStation TEST Emulator
icon=/media/data/local/home/.esoteric/cache/images/PSX - RG350/pcsxr-icon-small.png
