Launch xmame or mame4all with command line
« on: January 30, 2020, 07:24:14 am »
Hello,

I'm trying to launch directly a ROM (not the frontend) through xmame or mame4all using command line.

The goal is to be able to launch a ROM with one of these emulators within a frontend (gmenu2x, simplemenu or emulationstation).

I tried a lot of commands but no one worked  :(

Did someone managed to ?

Thanks

I have no solution for you but I fully support your endeavour to get this working as a fan of SimpleMenu, FBA too would be great  ;D

Snip
Not happening. XMAME only works through its UI, so you either work with it or you don't.

FBA's already had launcher support for months now.
It's just your average Seong.

I created a shortcut to to a rom on my Arcade Menu section by mistake... Not sure how I done it but I will try to do it again... Shame it cant be done for all systems like PSX, MegaDrive, SNES etc

Hi,

I managed to make it work that way :

1/ Create a "run_xmame.sh" file in .emulationstation directory with these commands inside :

-------------------

cd /media/sdcard/emulators/xmame/xmame /xmame84 (if you intend to use this version)

./xmame.SDL.84 $1

-------------------

2/ chmod 755 run_xmame.sh

3/ Add this kind of section in es_systems.cfg

-------------------

<system>

<name>mame</name>

<fullname>MAME</fullname>

<path>/media/sdcard/roms/MAME</path>

<extension>.zip</extension>

<command>"/media/data/local/home/.emulationstation/run\_xmame.sh" %BASENAME%</command>

<platform>Mame</platform>
</system>

-------------------

Enjoy !

I forked original MAME4ALL 2014-01-04 project (https://github.com/alekmaul/mame4all) in order to make it possible to use it with command line or frontend.

Modifications are as follow :

Removed the "new year" splash screen

Created 2 shortcuts in order to launch emu with frontend or with command line (file explorer)

Note : Emulator argument is the path to the rom file (ex: /media/sdcard/roms/Mame/1941.zip)

The forked version is here : https://github.com/goldmojo/mame4all.

The OPK is in the release here :
