Title: Best Format for PSX Games and Best Bios
Post by: RowleyBirkinQC on November 06, 2019, 05:48:12 pm
Hey All,

I should be receiving my RG350 tomorrow or the next day and am planning on downloading a library of PSX games to test, what file type seems to get the best performance? Does it matter so much? What is supported?

Don't want to waste my time downloading a load of games to find they are not in the optimal format.

Also, I have spotted somewhere that the bios used can affect performance, what is currently seen as the best bios to use?

Thanks for any advice

I have found a lot of games do not work in PBP format, after some testing I figured out most games converted to PBP using PopStation work fine, however PBP titles downloaded on the Vita using PKJG for the Adrenaline PSP emulator or using the Playtstation download tool for PC do not work. I "Think" those titles are encrypted.

I also tried PBP games from the PlayStation Classic 256GB pack over at arcadepunks, some worked others did not.

I suggest you just convert the ISO / Bin / Image files for PSone games to PBP using Popstation, That has given best results for me so far :)

It saves quite a lot of space but does not impact the performance ;)

Thanks for that, appreciated, I was considering space also as I read this, the games I've downloaded, all from same source, are a mix of the available formats but if PBP is the best for file size I am happy to convert them to that. Also re the .sub / .cue files, do I need to keep these? I've read for some games they are required.

Did you have any thoughts re the optimal bios to use?

Keep the .sub/.cue, they're tiny files and are required for some games to work properly.

About the BIOS the fastest is to use the HLE, but it's also the less compatible.

Not sure how these work when converting to PBP, I guess it will be trial and error just converting / play testing :)
