X9 console?
« on: July 23, 2018, 09:09:31 pm »
Bought this thing for $30 shipping included:

<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20210621230147/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsOkfZaMcnA" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsOkfZaMcnA</a>

It's.. not terrible - seems like I have a different firmware version (newer, I'd assume) as the main menu looks slightly different, but the important part is that games seem to run much better, I've tried the Kamikaze Squirrel which runs horribly for the guy, and it actually runs ok for me (and I also have the option to run fullscreen with a proper scale). So I'm wondering, would it be possible to dump the firmware somehow? People with performance problems could benefit. My firmware version is 1.1.10.120301 jan 4 2013.

Also, if someone maybe knows whether any other (original, or other) firmware is available, whether it's possible to flash it, and if the console can be modified or alternate sw loaded, then do share, please.

Took the device apart - avoid doing this, you will lose your speaker as the wires will break off, and the shell is brittle, I'm guessing you would be able to disassembly it about three times before it falls apart.

no internal sd card so flashing would have to be done via usb, no idea how or if this can be done.

What is the CPU on it? Is it an Actions MIPs processor? They have a Vivante GC800 gpu.

Edit: ATM7013 has a GC800 gpu.

An ATJ2279b as far as I can tell.

And it actually runs PSX games - tried Resident Evil and it ran perfectly fine, and Castlevania Symphony of the Night, which is too slow if the screen has all those fancy moving backgrounds, but still, pretty good for a $30 device.

I think I saw some other systems running Actions MIPS processors. It is a shame because the GPU in the atj2279b supports OpenVG 1.0 in their spec sheet, but their build quality is garbage.

Yes, the build quality and the UI are not amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but still, hard to say no to decent PSX emulation on a 5" screen for $30 (also tried FFVII and Resident Evil 2, both ran fine with just a bit of slowdown here and there).

The battery is quite weak though, about 3 hours of life for 3 hours charging.

Do any of them have L/R buttons?

Edit: I might make my own custom shell and give it a better battery.

Edit 2: Is it about as big as an RS-97? Maybe I could swap boards.

X9 does have L/R buttons, and I'd say it's a fair bit larger than RS-97 : https://i.ytimg.com/vi/4XSDUQUKXok/maxresdefault.jpg

i don't know, if this is really the firmware, i have the feeling this firmware wasn't made for those devices.
