I think that's a general problem when issues happen.
As long as everything works as planned, they are transparent. But as as soon as anything goes wrong (which is normal for such projects), they stop being transparent or try to hide that something happened.

The Pandora was similar, where the main guy became less and less transparent and told more and more lies to keep everyone calm, which in the end lead to a complete disaster.

That's not always the case. If the problems are solvable within reasonable costs and a timeframe, they'll only cause a delay for the backers and everything will be good in the end.

But somehow, most crowdfunders are afraid telling their backers if something didn't work as good as they planned to. Maybe they're afraid their backers will get angry.
I'm evil.

"overpromise, underdeliver" seems to be the moto of crowdfunding.  It is too late to get a refund.  why not be honest?

Maybe they finally realised that it is going to be an overheating disaster of a handheld?

I hope it's not a scam, but I start to be concerned for people who back it.

Hi guys,

Sorry for the lack of news. At this moment we're focused in the development of the final product. All our updates are private to the backers on the VIP forums, the reasons for that are:

- Our marketing resources are limited at the moment, all the efforts are in the development, so we prefer to concentrate our communications in a single channel.
- During the development there are many changes and conflicting information that we prefer to don't make public.
- Also regarding competition we prefer to don't make public our progression and status.
- Becoming part of the development, as a part of the VIP forums, was one of the benefits of becoming backer.

It's normal that during the Kickstarter we put our efforts in communicate all the information but then we go back to the development work. Once we will have specific news to make public we will, also we will add marketing resources to our team in the near future, so communications will be improved as we get closer to the final product.

Regarding the delivery delay, we explained that due to changes in the console design and components providers we’re now aiming for a September shipment for the backers. Gamescom 2017 (August) will be the first place where the final version of the console will be presented. We're not encountering any overheating problems, we're not changing any major spec, we're not cancelling anything, and this is not a scam.  :)

Thanks for your support!

He just said it's not overheating, he didn't say that it isn't throttling like crazy :)

@SMACHER

Does that mean you are now using a fan to cool the Smach Z.

I must admit, and I think this goes for a lot of others.   Without a fan, I have almost zero confidence that you would be able to keep the heat down and achieve max performance

Yes, we've been always considering to use a fan. Our two initial prototypes, one had a fan, the other one not.

We are working with the idea to include the fan if it's needed. For the moment we don't know yet.

It's needed and not rationally debatable that powerful portable gaming devices such as yours can implement passive cooling effectively.
