That's too good to be just the Smach Z, I think it's the PGS prototype TOO. Like... 2 portable pc's in one!

Rhomb.io will be hosting a Reddit AMA on July 25th to answer questions about their involvement in the Smach Z controversy: https://twitter.com/Rhomb_io/status/887930341561970690

Smach Z opened up their "prototype" and you'll never guess what's inside.

?

Where and when did Smach post that pic?

Also, what is the pcb in it, their own board or a board from something else?

To be clear, The picture does not show the "prototype". This thing has a Intel atom cpu and was streaming from another PC at the trade show.  The PC behind the scene supposedly contained the final hardware.  They should show the other pc instead.

It's the same board of the Linx 10 tablet as Pardue guessed in his video. You can compare both pausing Pardue's video at 9:25.

It was posted in their private forums and one of the members there posted it on the NeoGaf forums. Smach is currently trying to scrub it off the internet with more legal threats.

Of course in the AMA, Rhomb said it's not a Linx board, which is only half true. The board number is EM-I8011, which is the board used primarily in Linx 10 tablets but also rebranded to be sold in other markets. I asked him if he got the board from a Cube iWork10 U100GT and he went ballistic on my twitter.

https://twitter.com/StopDropRetro/status/890465271437082624

Seriously, his responses went on for hours. He basically admits to everything in there, way more revealing than the AMA. https://twitter.com/ppelaezc/with_replies

He then provided a pic with the board (boards?) used to make the prototypes:

https://twitter.com/ppelaezc/status/890470956963164160

And you can see the model number is EM_I8011_v6.2

Which is the exact same board you find in a Cube iWork10 U100GT

http://www.elektroda.pl/rtvforum/topic3278253.html

Funny enough, PGS tried the "You're wrong! It's not a Linx!! It's a Cube iWork" excuse too on this forum back when I caught them: http://boards.dingoonity.org/other-game-systems/pgs-portable-gaming-system-on-windows-10!!!/msg141838/?topicseen#msg141838

@Pardue

Actually he was pretty civil with you IMO.

From what he said in all the tweets, is that it's an Intel reference design board that is just used as is , or tweeked slightly by a number of tablet manufacturers.  Probably they just buy the boards from the same place(s)

This is common practice and knowledge that Chinese manufacturers use Intel reference boards/designs in their products. Intel make (or have a company make) these boards/designs which they give out to be used or modified by tablet manufacturers.

Of course, if that KS prototype actually did use a reference(or variant) tablet board , then yes, saying in the KS campaign page that it used clickarm is wrong. Unless Rhomb.io had once sold a product that used the board and called it ClickArm.  I notice they call a lot of their products ClickARM .  That said, I cannot see on there site  any such board that matches the board in question - so unless they had sold it previously and removed it from their site, then yes, it looks like the Smach Z prototype/PoC does not use ClickArm .

@vcoleiro1  Clickarm was running in the background while this "prototype" was used to stream the games.  I wanna see the clickarm pc rig.

@Pardue

I really don't see him going ballistic on your twitter just normal typical back and forth between questions.
Hopefully something good comes out of all this.

Looking at what Pedro has said on Twitter and doing some digging of my own I feel it is fair to say that they did purchase the pcb from the ODM and did not take it from another tablet.

Intel engaging local tablet suppliers more closely. Intel is putting more energy on penetrating the low-cost tablet market and now has reference models from design houses such as Emdoor and smaller branded companies including Ramos and Vido. The company is offering a thin and light reference design based on Clover Trail now with Bay Trail rolling out in the next 3 months. Factory price for 10” with keyboard ranges from $250-300 for Android and $300-$350 for Android + Wintel. 7.85” tablets are from Intel are now appearing at US$150 factory price, the high-end of the US$50-135 range for tablets based on Mediatek or the Chinese chipset suppliers. We are seeing more effort from Intel to penetrate several of these design houses on tablets, though presence is still very limited at the local smartphone suppliers.

Emdoor Digital is in charge of R&D of Emdoor. Officially founded in 2010, Emdoor Digital symbolizes the important start for Emdoor to increase research investment and focus on consumer product development and standard operation. Emdoor Digital is one of the earliest teams engaging in tablet PC research, which targets at consumer digital product and solution research and production. At present, it is one of the largest tablet PC main board and ODM/OEM suppliers in Shenzhen.

imasD used a Emdoor reference board that they sell to and are used in many other companies tablets.

I guess if you could definitively prove it used the same camera(it was hard to tell in the comparison shots), then it would be hard to argue it isn't a Link 10 board.  Seeing as the Link 10 uses a 2MP camera and the Smach Z is meant to use a 3MP camera.

Of course as said before, it really doesn't matter, if it used a board that is not clickarm in any shape or form
