Questions about the Wiz and Caanoo
« on: September 16, 2010, 11:45:09 pm »
Does that analog stick work okay for games originally made for a d-pad?
Does the Caanoo play Wiz games?  (Looking around it seems no)
Does either the Wiz or Caanoo emulate the snes at full 60fps?
Does the button/d-pad layout detract from playing games on the Wiz?

Is it better to get a Caanoo or a Wiz?

1.yes, it is very good actually!
2. no, they are not compatible. but there is an app that can do some games.
3. yes, both of them (except for the usual difficult ones like pilotwings etc)
4. no, but the d-pad is a bit small!

I sold my Wiz years ago because that refresh issue was just killing me. It would be a really nice device otherwise.

What was the refresh issue exactly? I own one with the latest firmware and I don?t see any now, they fixed the issue with the flicker thing.

It had a horrible diagonal line in some emulators. I sold mine several years ago so perhaps it was fixed later.

The Wiz like some other consoles lacked v-sync. So when an emulator updated the display it was out of sync with the LCD.

This results in screen "tearing" - an uneven update of the LCD.

Other consoles that lack vsync include the GP32, Dingoo A320 and some versions of the RS-97. There are probably others.

I owned both and was underwhelmed by the Caanoo. Inferior screen to the Wiz, and even though the analog thumbstick was good for what it was, it was still frustrating being forced to use it when a d-pad would have been more precise and functional for the vast majority of games.

I still miss my Wiz to this day and wish I never sold it to afford a Caanoo.

What I want to find out is what screen did Steward use to replace the one in his Wiz. He makes a mention of replacing it in his blog but never mentions the model he got, only that it worked.
