Odroid-Go successor - Odroid Go Advance (60hz, Rockchip, PSP)
« on: December 29, 2019, 10:58:40 pm »
Link to announce page:
https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid-go-advance/

Replacement Odroid Go has been announced, looks like Odroid has listened to all the feedback regarding the original and made some improvements.

Namely: more powerful, better 60hz screen (low res still, but that means batterlife doesn't suffer as much), 4 face buttons, headphone jack, fullsized USB host for Wifi, Keyboard, or external storage.

Unit is Linux based so should have great support.

One of the things i liked about the original Odroid-Go was that it was quick to boot.  Now that its got a full linux kernal it looks like this is going to be pretty much more similar to Gpi case.  Hopefully it won't have the same sluggish initial boot time.

Also really liked how thing the original odroid-go was.

Also really liked how thin the original odroid-go was.

If the original Odroid-Go could do GBA/NGP and had link cable support it would have been my absolute favourite console (including all the consoles it emulates).

This seems to be basically the above, with a couple of caveats. I can live with that.

Where do people in the UK/Europe find best to order Odroid stuff from? I got my Go from HardKernel and ended up getting a ?10 invoice from Fedex.

I'm in Aus and have only ever ordered from Hardkernal directly sorry.
Their shipping tends to make the price the same as third party sellers, so if you're getting charged duties on top of that then it's probably a good idea to jump on the Hardkernal forum and ask who the UK distributors are.

Available for pre-order here (yes I pre-ordered)

https://ameridroid.com/products/odroid-go-advance

I hear it'll have Batocera available eventually, as well as the default Ubuntu. Should be very interesting.

I pre-ordered one myself.  Might be the new home for my PS1 & PSP games than my hacked Vita.
Since it's being made in South Korea instead of China it should have a higher level of quality and some actual QA/QC than the Chinesium handhelds like the RG350 or PocketGo 2 which pretty much have no QA/QC at all.

UPDATE:  Looking at the chip specs, it supports Vulcan.
That means PSP should be pretty decent, but it's all about the developers porting things over of course.

$55.95 is a good price for this handheld, but $16 shipping (cheapest to USA) is a deal breaker for me.

That's because shipping from South Korea to the US isn't as heavily subsidized as it is in China.
Realistically the shipping rates form China to mainland USA are a low-cost exception whereas normal shipping from everywhere else is the rule.
You think that's expensive?  Try having Dell ship a server to Baghdad or Kabul - *that's* expensive.

Well the GPH Caanoo was a made in South Korea and was renowned for it's build quality so that's good news for this device

I'm not a big psp fan but if this device can run peace walker at playable speed that would be really good, I think fullspeed may be pushing it but if it could, that'd be awesome

Wow really? Even with the shipping it's still cheaper than an RG350.

A developer said it takes 8 sec to boot.
You can also see it in the HardKernel video.
