looking for a Powkiddy J6 owner (SD card data needed)
« on: September 24, 2020, 02:52:04 pm »
So I just got my Powkiddy J6. Bought it out of curiosity mostly. It didn't came with an SD card, which I thought was fine, until I turned it on... apparently there should be vital data saved on the sd card, sooo.... right now its just a piece of plastic junk.

Does anybody here own a J6 and would be willing to share their sd card data with me? I don't want any roms, just the bare minimum needed to actually use the device ^^'

Perhaps you could contact the seller?
Not for returning it as usually its not worth it cause of postage cost but at the very least they should send you a replacement SD card with files needed on it. Worth a shot.
Happened to me with the PocketGo 2 (Didnt help as my unit was faulty..anyway..thats a diff story)

Contact the seller and open a dispute with Aliexpress to get their attention. If you don't get a satisfactory response, then get a refund for non working product. I am not sure about that machine, but from what I know it has an internal nand, so more than likely it is a non working product. I think Wicked Gamer and Collector made a video review, you could ask in his channel and video if it came with a card or not. But open a dispute or the seller may not feel "motivated" to answer.

You need to format SD card in exFAT. Then download and copy files from here:

Good luck.

Yup, worked for me as well, thank you :) I advised the seller to include the files somehow or send them to the buyers, but dunno if they'll ever do that haha.

Kind of a shame that it has button input overlay, you can't press the bottom and left action button plus the right dorection... but for the price you really can't complain much

Good news:

CPS1 & CPS2 -> FB Alpha v0.2.97.39 Non-Merged .zip format.

Neo Geo (MVS) -> MAME 2003-Plus Reference: Full Non-Merged Romsets .fba format, you must convert this roms with fbacache.

Just to let you know I've started a devel thread here. In case anyone has anything to contribute to some development on the Powkiddy J6.

Good morning,

I have the same problem, I bought the Powkiddy J6 in Shopee and it came without the SD card.
I bought a SanDisk Ultra microSDHC UHS-I 16GB SD Card. I formatted for ExFat and copied the files from J6 Dump, when I put it in the console, it starts frozen.

Any suggestion?

Ask the seller for the .fw file to flash your console. Most likely it's a problem with the firmware on it. You could try to format it FAT32 but I'm not sure if that would help.
I might have some solution but it needs to run some application from the SD card and if that is not working ...

Also could you go into Settings , Advanced and Information and tell us the Firmware version. Also from there ( Settings, Advanced ) you could try formatting the card and then putting the files from the card dump to it.

The Console is in Chinese.
When it's without the memory card, I can't enter the settings, when I insert the SD card the device freezes.

When it is in Fat32 or NTFS it gives an error that does not recognize the card and when it is in ExFat it freezes.

Follow Video with the problem > https://drive.google.com/file/d/149CxM1AqAXkt6RVPBIA5OdJK65XBpk7P/view?usp=sharing

Right, I forgot that the settings is also on the SD card.
Try and tell the seller about your issue and if he can give you a firmware file to flash. The problem is most likely in the firmware that's on the device so that needs to be flashed.
Of course you could try a different band and capacity for the SD card but if it's really a firmware issue then it's pointless. It could be that they changed the firmware.
It's also possible that the hardware is defective but it's less likely.
We're working to reverse engineer the software update so we can have some solutions to dump the memory and see what's going on. It will take a while though.

I performed the test with a generic SD card 2 Gb and the same problem occurred.
I sent a message to the seller on Friday and so far no response.
I just requested the return/refund request at this time.

I read your work on the XDA forum hoping to find something that could help.

It's a shame that there was no way, I had bought it to give as a gift to my nephew, now I'm going to get one that comes with an SD card.

Thanks for the support.

I think we're a few weeks from being able to backup and flash the firmware of the J6 ( the one on the flash chip inside ). Unfortunately the sellers and manufacturers are really not cooperating, they just want to keep it a secret and I lost a lot of time writing to them only to be told that it's for China use only and bla bla...
Till them I've found this on a Spanish forum :  https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=%21AMijpAHrVetdoVI&cid=BC866FBCAB8BDD37&id=BC866FBCAB8BDD37%21221&parId=root&action=locate

It seems to be a newer firmware dump of the SD card , try it , maybe it will work.

Anyway don't throw the non-working J6 away , we'll probably have something to get it working eventually.
