« on: February 28, 2017, 10:35:18 am »
Meet the Gemini, a dual boot Android and Linux UMPC designed by the creators of the PSion.
For the incredible price of $349 (early bird  still 500 available - $399 later) gets you a Gemini with

Features:

4G LTE, uSD slot, GPS , removable 8000mAh battery , front camera, high res 2880x1440 5.7" multitouch screen, dual boot linux and ANDROID, NFC, mechanical keyboard, Accelerometer, compass, light sensor, gyro, magneto-sensor, WiFi, Blutooth, dual USB C ports. stereo speakers, metal casing, 4GB RAM, 64GB emmc etc etc

Easily pocketable dimensions of only :   171 mm x 80 mm x 13.5 mm

It also uses the pretty decent Mediatek Helio X25 Deca core SOC which has:

2x Cortex A72 @2.5GHz
4x Cortex A53 @2.0GHz
4x Cortex A53 @1.55GHz

Basically includes everything  people have been asking GPD to include in the GPD Pocket and then some more.  4G LTE with SIM slot - check, front facing web cam - check, uSD slot - check, Removable battery - check.

Check it on Indiegogo here:

As they are being made by the designers of the Psion i have had them all and all i can say is the build quality is awesome and the Psion devices were way ahead of there time.  I am looking forward to this unit more than my gpd to be honest because i think this is what the gpd should have been it oozes quality in all angles trust me all the Psion devices did its about time we start getting some ultra portable devices now been waiting so long for these.

I think I've seen you on the backers list for a number of devices, the Pocket as you mention, but also:

I think you backed - and then backed out of the PGS?

Did you also back the Pyra, GPD WIN , Smach Z?

If it had gamepad controls like GPD win would be interesting for me but just a mini laptop is of no interest for me, ike GPD Pocket (which I am not intersted either). I am curious about Linux support, because I have never seen a MTK device running Linux, mainly when they use outdated kernels in Android. the only SoC that use manline kernel for Linux and Android is surprsingly the RK3399 (which is 4.4 kernel).
I wouldn't mind seeing an android handheld with that specs though, but with less resolution and better aspect ratio rather than 18:9 (fullHD maximum at 16:9 is the ideal for me in a small device.)

The resolution does seem way over the top.   I wonder why they chose such a high res.

Yeah that jumped out at me too. I don't think they finalized anything yet though as a zoom of their keyboard showed it's absent of basic punctuation(comma and period). It's a very sleek device though and indicative of the burgeoning return of pocketable computers. Would love to get a closer look at the hinge operation. 8)

Spoke too soon. They do have comma and period but they're weirdly placed. Brackets are still awol though:

certainly the right size for that formfactor and more interesting than the pocket. I can't wait to see this come out on the market.

also note that android nougat has splitscreen, so you can 2 things at once!
