Encase anyone is interested to boot into recovery on the S18 its power + M button at the same time from off,
JXD said to upgrade was power and + button but that's only if your upgrading straight from SD which is no good practice IMO

Here you go, it's just taken from the update.zip. (I don't have this device)

Hello all,

i'm new to this forum.
I've subscribed because i've found this forum as one (and maybe only?) resource for the JXD S18 minitablet.

I've bought a white JXD S18 from a china online store ... unfortunately it's arrived with a totally unusable screen (broken!).
However i'm quite sure that the electronic is still working, if i plug the tablet to a windows pc, i see that a USB device is found.

I'd like to reuse this hardware for some other purpose (since resend the tablet back will cost me more than buying a new one).

Does anyone have some documentation, or sw or some hints to build a 'debian' image that can run on this small tablet?
I'm starting by looking here http://openlinux.amlogic.com/wiki/index.php/Arm
but maybe some of you can share some info and some 'how-to' ?  :)

Thanks.
Ciao,
Fabrizio

i may not fully get your point, but wouldnt you simply want a new screen?

Hi, no i do not need a new screen.

i'd like to:
- run debian on the S18 hardware
- make it auto connect to some preconfigured wifi network
- connect using ssh
- mount USB harddisk
- share hd on the network
- run some p2p sw

i need to compile uboot and kernel for this board and create a small filesystem

So .. i do not need your S18 as stated in your sign  :)

Ciao,
Fabrizio

that would have been a little expensive just for the screen anyways :p

but i wonder how you plan to install debian on it? and are you sure you could enable usb host? otherwise youre stuck with micro sd cards for external memory.

I have a S18 with a smashed up screen that willgoo sent me must of happened in the post anyway instead of throwing it away (I got my money back BTW) I bought this today should work its almost identical in everyway to the one in the S18 it is only the digitizer that's broke but for the money might as well get both save messing around ;D

Let you know when I get it ..it will be some time I reckon though lol

Ehehe yeah, you're right :) (and this month i'm in financial restriction ... my family bills are surprisingly increased).
I still do not have any idea how to start. Maybe today or this weekend i'll read some info on amlogic website and try to make some experiments.

I've done this operation only once before, on a freescale i.mx board ... not so succesully :)

Anyway, i've got two options:
1) trash the broken S18
2) try to play with it
If i'll brick it with wrong bootloader or wrong sw, i can safely choose option 1)

Ciao,
Fabrizio
