Open-source SDK for PlayStation 1 (PSX)!
« on: October 27, 2015, 02:21:09 pm »
Hi everyone,

There's an open-source software development kit for PlayStation 1, so you can create your own 2D videogames in C and C++ (with partial support)! I have myself developed already some demos, such as an Arkanoid-based clone with enhanced funcionality. Games can be written with any advanced text editor (like Notepad++ or Geany IDE), compiled using PSXSDK's libraries and GCC configuration and played either under emulator (PCSX-r recommended) or real hw.

If you want to play your games in real hardware, you'll need mod-chipped PSX, use the CD swap trick (only for older PSX models) or upload them using Xplorer cheat cartridge.

If you're using Windows, you can compile PSXSDK yourself using Cygwin.

That's seriously great news !
I was very hesistant to make games using the official devkit (plus it's a pain in the ass to install)
but now i can develop for PSX on my linux box, that's just great.

Might do some games on it if it ends up not being too complicated.
