« on: January 27, 2011, 08:10:43 am »
Engadget got their hands on a preview unit and this video shows them playing PSX and GBA emulators, all working pretty smoothly:

Which SE phone is it?

I've had the X10 Mini Pro for the last 6 months and it hasn't missed a beat, been really good and is great for emulation.

Runs quite a few PSX games and the majority of Snes, Genesis, GBA etc. In fact the PSX emulation is much better than my Dingoo! Some games are actualy faster than on my PSX.

Was really dubious at first as i've never liked SE phones but it's uber cheap and well specced
Handhelds:
GPD Win, GPD XD 64gb, PlayGo, RS-90, 3DS XL, DSi XL, GBA SP, GBBC Clone, Gameboy Pocket c/w screen mod, PSP Go
PC:
ASUS TUF, Medion Erazer, Toshiba Z20t, Dell Mini 9, Psion 5MX, Toshiba 3480ct
Tons of other old laptops and tablets.....

Xperia Play will probably flop like the N-Gage, especially when NGP is coming out in the same time frame.

Can't see how it will "flop". It's not relying on a proprietary games format. It's just a smartphone with controls. Even if Psx suite is a "flop" the phone can still run the thousands of apps already available on Android market.

+1

I use my phone for emulation and if this is the only phone to offer proper controls - therefore is better than all the other phones out there for gaming. It's not a handheld console, it's a phone with a well thought out layout for playing games. When the competition in the phone market relies on touch/tilt gaming (which is mainly awful IMO) this is a breath of fresh air.
Also NGage had very few decent titles, this will have a huge back catalogue which Sony can rely on. Imagine if Nintendo had brought out a GBA phone, how good would that have been?

Another thing, why do people insist on calling the PSP2 the "Next Generation Portable"? NGP means Neo Geo Pocket, everybody knows that! Surely every new handheld console is by default a "NGP"?
Smells like marketing BS from Sony i think.

Only before their released. Once they are released they become "CGP"(current gen portable).
