http://gbatemp.net/t272700-ps3-psp-private-keys-released
Pretty much makes both platforms 100% open for homebrew/emulation.
The psp is more interesting here since it can be had here in the US fro gamestop for $99 to $129 "pre owned" (depending on model).
IMHO this hits wiz/canoo more because of price. What does this mean for dingoo class machines?
Expect psp2 to be pushed out as quickly as possible. Although frankly i wonder how much the DS was really hurt by the flash carts. It was hacked the quickest and has been hacked the longest.

Hope i can get Peggle PSP finally :)
-
Wonder how long till this amounts to something? A CFW was released for 3.55 PS3, it just adds a package manager to XMB for now(more a show of proof than anything useful). No News at all yet on PSP front. Unrelated to the keys, there have been ports of the PSP 6.2 HEN for 6.31 and 6.35. Iso loading works and a lot of homebrew. In time Psx eboot loading will come.
-
well you don't look enough and you don't have to wait, you can do it all yourselve :)
the tool for the cfw works on any firmware any version, you just need to know what to do :p
and most people are basically after piracy so of course the tool won't support that, although it can be modified to so and source is availible.
It supports the package installation stuff for homebrews, since we can now sign our homebrew as sony does so no more hassle with usb keys & whatever.
-
I wouldn't just say piracy. Both my wii and psp are hacked exactly so I don't have to continually change out discs AND the games run noticeably smoother with dramatically shorter load times. The disks sit in a box in the basement somewhere. Oh yeah, and I use both as media players also. The piracy portion is likely overblown although it is there.
The hacked keys should allow for download and run of homebrew, etc without any need to install hacks, cfws, etc. It could make homebrew almost seamless to run.

Screw sony anyway, hope they flop out of the game business, the only good exclusive they got is gran turismo, so many lies... resident evil portable...

Just downloaded a 7+ gig romset for FBAnext thats floating around out there. I'm in retro heaven right now, this is friggen awesome.

Is it worth me adding any custom firmware to my PS3? I don't play online much, mostly only SSFIV, but would like the option in future. Will this leave me stuck at FW 3.55? I'm looking through some stuff online but can't weigh up the risk/reward ratio... :/
-
I'm actually glad those keys got leaked. They do help with PSP emulation on PC.
-
What will become of the dingoo now?
-
Well alldingoos will explode!!
What exactly do you mean with your question?
-
Indeed, your question makes no sense Silverhawk. This will have no effect or relevance at all on the popularity of Dingoos.
-
I mean, i saw a SNES emulator running on a PSP these days, games run FullSpeed, but with some nasty graphical glitches.
Since they hacked the keys, i guess a further development can be done for these emulators, and nowadays, a PSP costs as much as a dingoo does.
My question is, what will happen? Will dingoo drown in the pool of misery?
-

The fact that the key has been found won't have any effect, good or bad, on the development of emulators...
-
Allright, now that answers my question...
I guess dingoo will still have some space on the portable-gaming industry.

In my experience, the Dingoo handles the systems it emulates way better than the PSP. Especially SNES (with Snes9x4D) and GBA (with the native GBA emulator), so I mostly use my PSP for PSX and PSP games, and my Dingoo for emulation needs.

SO wrong, GBA emulation is WAY better/faster on psp, gpSP was made for psp... Snes9xTYL0 is better also you can run most game with NO frame skip, dingoo everything has major frame skip, CPS1 CPS2 etc pretty much all better/faster on psp sorry apart from atari lynx, that sucks on psp
Maybe you have Fat psp with less Ram and its crap
-
I think the only emulator that runs better on Dingoo is Mame. Pretty much everything the Dingoo does well so can the PSP. The stuff Dingoo struggles with like Cps2 and Neogeo is pretty much perfect on PSP. Ports of pc games like Quake run better on PSP also. Oh and of course PSP has wireless multiplayer. I think the Psp might be the best handheld available. Emulates everything up to psone well and even has some N64 emulation.

gpSP was made for gp2x.

SNES emulation on PSP actually isnt good. Runs with 0 FS, but has severe graphical glitches. Just borrowed one from a friend, tried all sorts of games and none of then worked 100%.
@edit
And PSX emulation would be quite possible on dingoo IF they fixed the goddamn poly frameskip.

Well you and your friend obviously are n00bs and are using some old emulator or you havnt even changed the Engine options, psp accel + approx soft generally works best ...
