Reicast Dreamcast emulator
« on: December 19, 2013, 11:09:04 am »
Put this in the JXD section as I would like to know how this performs with the S7300b/S5110b consoles but any input is appreciated.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.reicast.emulator

Tried it briefly last night with Sega Bass Fishing but it wouldn't recognise the disc (it was .gdi format), rips have to be in .gdi or .chd so I will be borrowing some games off a friend to rip in the next few days. Apparently people are getting full speed on more modern devices so hopefully they will be playable on my S7300. Shenmue on the go would be awesome!

Good news is the controls map to Tincore perfectly so this isn't an issue.
Handhelds:
GPD Win, GPD XD 64gb, Pap KIII-Plus, RS-97, RS-90, New Bittboy, 3DS XL, DSi XL, GBA SP, GBBC Clone, Gameboy Pocket, PSP Go,
PC:
HP Envy M6, Acer 522, Dell Mini 9
Psion 5 & 5MX
Tons of other old laptops and tablets.....

Skelton gave some info in the thread about Retroarch on the s5110b.
He said it works surprisingly well though Shenmue (the one I'm interested in) suffers from graphical glitches

In 5110B it performs pretty well, Shenmue is glitchy though. I think it's quite optimized considering it's in alpha state, and it clearly uses frameskip auto by default. But quite surprised. I will test it in IBEN L1 soon and probably on next coming GPD devices, so I will compare between them.

Cdi images work fine too, no need for gdi ones (though gdi are usually better dumped)

Cheers guys, I agree it does seem to be surprisingly polished for an aplha. Anyone tried Metropolis Street Racer? It's pretty intense so I assume it won't be all that smooth but you never know.

Looks like I'll have to wait a while before forklift truck racing on the bus becomes a reality! Added bonus of Shemnue is that you get spot on versions of Hang On and Space Harrier though!

Metropolis Street Racer seems to run fine and smooth, though there is some strange behavoiur with controls, and there is no FX sound, only radio channels are listened. But in terms of speed run smooth in 5110B.

Holy... a DreamCast emulator that actually works for Android - now that's rare.
I put all my hopes in NullDC until now, but now there's a new contender. Going to try Skies of Arcadia when I have the chance, and I may even track down my old rip of SoulCalibur just for the mission mode.

This is an early alpha build, so it can only get better!

This is a fork indeed of NullDc and NullDce. So that means that games using WinCE won`t probably run ok.

Hahahaha! You knows it!

That's pretty good news, thanks Skelton. Not expecting too much but this seems seriously impressive already. Are the control issues specific to this game or are they across the board? I could only test them by mapping them in Tincore and watching the virtual pad respond and everything seemed hunky dory, haven't got any games running yet.

Has anybody tried Daaaaaaaaaaaaayyyytooooooooooooooonaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?

The control issues seem game specific. I haven't tried with Tincore, with 5110B controls are detected directly.

Has anyone found a good solution to the L and R triggers being mapped properly?

On a s7800b they aren't mapped by default.  With tinecore you can map it to major and minor joystick button and that works.  But when you do that it disables the analog stick for movement.

My current solution is to use the built in mapper with sticks disabled, but every virtual button press causes input delay from the sticks.

Perhaps I'm just bad at tincore configuration.  If anybody has a working map they could share that would be awesome.

I'm getting funny control issues in Tincore, buttons seem to stop working after a few seconds and the touchscreen no longer registers.

Keep having to remind myself it's at alpha stage though, it's missing all the usual features and has glitches but damn, it plays DC games!

I don't fully understand how exactly I'm suppose set up the BIOS.

It says to place the BIOS at, "/sdcard/dc/data/dc_boot.bin"
and place the Dreamcast flash at, "/sdcard/dc/data/dc_flash.bin."

My issue is that there's no 'dc' folder in my sdcard. So do I manually create them? because I can't access the Dreamcast emulator without the bios it keeps requesting.

Yeah, just create the folders.

The download page for this is signed "--drk", drkRaziel was (one of) the author of nullDCE, a promising DC emulator for Android that was leaked causing him to shut the project down.  I'm hoping this is basically just him restarting the project where he left off, as there is a lot of promise to that.

I like how he's going OSS this time, hopefully we should see the project move swiftly and there won't be any trouble with "leaks" and "betas" since it's just open and public throughout this time.
