Just go to settings/about tablet, and it should say if it is a s7800A or s7800b. Or install an app like CPU-Z

Check your device's specs in CPU-Z:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cpuid.cpu_z
S7800A has A31s Allwinner CPU (1.0 GHz) and 1 GB of RAM, while S7800b has Rockchip RK3188 (1.4 GHz or 1.6 GHz) and 2 GB of RAM. RK3188 1.6 GHz are "early birds", RK3188 1.4 GHz - standart post-November units.
S7800A is device that significantly harder to get.
All S7800 units comes pre-rooted. Just update your to the latest official firmware:
http://www.jxd.cc/download.asp?id=391&selectclassid=019009
Just unzip "update.img" file and put in installed SD card. System will ask you if you want to upgrade.

Those people with a 1,4 ghz device, I would personally open a device to see if JXD has put a RK3188-T inside instead of a standard 3188. Some companies are doing this.

What's the difference between the RK3188t and the regular version? I searched online but couldn't find anything concrete. People seem to think it's a cheaper version of the RK3188 but doesn't seem like there's any official information on that soc.

It is a cheaper version. Locked at 1,4 ghz by default, and unable to use retina displays. Any case, I think 1,4 ghz or 1,6 ghz is practically the same. I use some RK3188 devices at just 1,2 ghz, and it's enough for emulation.

Anyway to identify the SoC without physically checking? Or do they both identify as the same?

I know they are revision r3p0 in cpuz, both early 1.6 units as well as the newer 1.4's

It seems quite likely that's what they've done then.. or it's quite a coincident.

They are identified the same, so phisically is the only way to know it, r3p0 is Mali driver version.

Thanks everybody for all the answers...well I suppose it is a post november unit:
it is already updated to the last firmware, the build number is S7800-b-01-V1.1.4-20131107.224619.
CPU-Z returns these values:
ARM Cortex-A9, 4 cores, r3p0 revision, clock speed 312 mhz to 1,42 ghz, GPU vendor ARM, Gpu Renderer Mali-400Mp.
I'll post a screen as soon as I can

More so than the Stock rom. TANs rom makes your device compatible with all playstore apps, as it masks the JXD as a Samsung GT-N7100

The unit I received yesterday has the same build and CPU-Z identifies it as Rockchip RK3066 running at 1,42GHz and 2GB RAM. That's a bit strange, because I believed the S7800B features the RK3188.

LooZee that sounds really weird. try to take a look in here:

http://boards.dingoonity.org/jxd-devices/s7800b-1-6ghz-(tweaked-vsync-fix)-minimal-rom-wother-fixes-(by-webclaw)/300/

hello friends leave this application that detects 3188 & 3188-T unit JXD your s7800b
download
http://www.freaktab.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5403&d=1392656453

Only way to properly identify is via dmesg via SSH:

Here is T series:

<4>[    4.352416] Mali: Mali400 inside of rk3188!
<4>[    4.352453] Mali: mali freq table num : 6
<4>[    4.352478] Mali: mali freq table :Mali: 128,Mali: 179,Mali: 223,Mali: 297,Mali: 297,Mali: 446,Mali:
<4>[    4.352546] Mali: init mali clock success
<4>[    4.357967] Mali: @@@@@@@Mali device driver loaded [email protected]@@@@@@@

Anything else, for example 59XMHz is non-T series.

try to read also here:

download android terminal emulator from playstore
open it
type su
now type dmesg
a shitload of pages come up, now look at the code.

you can also do this via your ocmputer but you gotta google how to ADB

I just checked my October unit also reads out as 3066 on CPUZ.
I would'nt worry to much, I believe they're related, and people have already taken their units apart and verified they use 3188's

CPUZ probably just can't tell the difference.

Thanks for your replies.

CheckRK3188 says "Device seems to be a real RK3188".
CPU-Z may have a bug or the chipset identifiers are ambigous or something.
