hello everyone,  jxd s18 has impressive hardware specifications for that price tag..

i think its perfect for E-books and net surfing...
i want to know your opinions about the game emulation...?

lot of emulators are there for Android devices... without buttons, can it handle all those emulators?

If system support USB OTG, you can always try to connect it a gamepad USB, but not sure if it has USB OTG.

If the touch is good enough you can play anything that needs only up to two button presses as the same time... Which is not a lot :p maybe turn-based games like rpgs, but forget mario and the likes.

Sellers say that it has otg, however when i directly contacted jxd they told me it had none. But ?aybe that was at an earlier point of development, so lets hope the best :D

that means, we can press 2 buttons at a time..? that wl be a drawback for some games. but enough to play most of the games..

I wouldn't buy this for emulation.

Should be fine for simple Android games where you can swipe or drag with a stylus (card games, Temple Run etc.) but really won't be fun trying to play with a virtual pad and buttons with the resistive screen.

Also I don't think it has USB OTG or Bluetooth (happy to be corrected on that btw!) so no way to hook up a keyboard/controller. I actually hoped it would have bluetooth as I'm planning on buying a mini keyboard for my phone anyway but I don't think it does.

I think this is best used as a portable music/video player and internet browser, maybe for kids or as a cheap tablet to leave around the house/take on the bus.
Handhelds:
GPD Win, GPD XD 64gb, PlayGo, RS-90, 3DS XL, DSi XL, GBA SP, GBBC Clone, Gameboy Pocket c/w screen mod, PSP Go
PC:
Medion Erazer, Toshiba Z20t, Dell Mini 9, Psion 5MX
Tons of other old laptops and tablets.....

I agree with "lemmywinks".

JXD S18 is a low end Android tablet which is not very suitable for emulation games. You can play some Android games without any problem. As it is not an retro game console, we do not test if it can play emulation games- you can not use the D-PAD to control it.

Yes, No USB OTG and Bluetooth as what we describe on line. It is only a low price Android tablet for low end market. What you can get from a basic function Android tablet and you can get from S18.

"ruffnutts"'s choice is right- it is very suitable send as a gift for a child. Or maybe we can call this device as" Children's Android Tablet". No more any complicated function or features for a device for Kid.

then, how can we use the advantage of that hardware... 1GHz processor, 512MB ram, mali400 graphics..?

i think, for children, there is no need of that much hardware.. ;)

Because it runs Android 4.0 and we don't want a sluggish tablet.
It's not about taking advantage of the hardware - which although decent is by no means powerful by todays standards - it's about getting something decent for the money.

You can get lesser tablets (600mhz) running Android 2.3 for similar money but why would you want to?

Also with 2 DS thumb straps you could play one of the Asphalt games on it, possibly even Dead trigger if it runs ok. I'll test some touch games on it when it arrives, basically the ones that use swipes relative to where you touch the screen or just pressure on a particular side of the screen (like Asphalt) would probably be ok.

Ones that extensively use virtual pads/buttons would be pretty bad though so that rules out all emulators.

Also Willgoo could you confirm that this doesn't have TV out and also USB host?

This site is listing it as having mini USB host, even labelling the port that way on the picture:

I think installing the XBMC on the Android device will be a good idea. I will test it later. :)
