64gb SD not working
« on: January 30, 2014, 09:47:53 pm »
I got a 64gb SD card, a cheap one. I formated it to fat32 and copied all my files onto it from my existing sd , but every time I put it in the s7800b I can't find some of the files I put on and it seems to corrupt some. I have removed it and reformatted it a few times but still the same. Any ideas??

Yeah, how cheap?  If too cheap then its very likely to be fake as 64GB cards do work

Like ?10 eBay one. I  did buy one for my 3ds (not exactly the same but still cheap one) and that has been fine so I thought I'd try one in the s7800

a ?10 64GB card will be absolutely 100% fake.  Im assuming your based somewhere in the UK (as am I).  A genuine 64gb card wont be had anywhere for under ?25.  Id send it back for a refund.

Even with the one in your DS, you'll probably be able to fill 8GB of it, perhaps even 16gb and you might get away with it.  But if you only paid around a tenner for that one as well your going to end up with problems at some point.  Try connecting it to your PC and filling it up, you'll soon know.

From my knowledge, this is the cheapest place currently in the UK to get a LEGIT 64gb card:

You might be able to shave a couple off quid off that on ebay, but no more.

What a fake 64gb card is, is probably a 4gb or 8gb card that has some modification added to it so that it reads in all devices as a full 64gb card.  The problem occurs once you hit the limit of what the actual card size is, hence vanishing and corrupt data.

The reason why these continue to sell well however is because people will probably go out an buy a 64GB card, but never ever use say more than 10% of it, so would never actually know that most of the card was unusable.

if you want to keep the card you could check the actual capacity with this:

and then you could format it to a proper size (i used gbparted on ubuntu).
