[7800B] MAME4droid - Does it run better for you?
« on: March 14, 2014, 11:44:38 pm »
I'm trying to play a 32bit arcade classic, Golden Axe - Revenge of Death Adder. Now I can get it to play with very reasonable framerate, but the sound crackles alot and the game does suffer occassional slowdowns. It's not a big deal and I can live with it, but I'm just wondering if this is truly the limits of the JXD 7800B's ability to run this game or maybe it's user error and I've not set the right settings.

So just wondering, if any one with this handheld are MAME gamers, and if so, could you see how well you can play this game. If you truly can get it running at full speed with no sound issues, then I would love to know your settings. If everyone has the same issues, then its the limit of the ability of the handheld and/or emulator at this time, which is fine, the newer the MAME rom, the more demanding it is to emulate.

Also don't try running this game in RetroArch. It's not playable, MAME4droid 0.139u1 only.

I personally use FBA-Capex (GCW Zero) and aFBA (for my S7800B). I highly recommend it.

That Golden Axe doesn't work with FinalBurn.

I tried it with Mame4Droid and it's pretty playable but I suffer the same problems as mentioned in the OP.

JXD S7800b (WebClaw 116.5 ROM)

Don't expect to run that golden axe game full speed in a rk3188. I think it's not full speed even on shield xD. It's system32 which is no very optimized in mame. The more you can get is using a frameskip of 2 for instance and using speed hacks in mame options to make it quite playable.

By the way, I don't understand how people recommend aFBA. It's an abandonned emu with no accuracy at all, full of speed hacks.
Fba Core in retroarch is much more accurate and even perform better than aFBA, because it's same version as pc desktop version.

Much appreciated. Was just making sure there wasn't anything I could do better to improve the games performance. Regardless it's still very playable, and I love the fact I can finally have that game on a handheld. It's the best Golden Axe game that people rarely know about.
