[S7800] List of games compatible with controls by default
« on: December 01, 2013, 09:24:15 am »
Here is my attempt to compile the list of Android games that recognise and binds physical buttons and joystics of S7800b natively, without any tools (Tincore/JXD keymapper or anything else):

Completely working controls:
Acceler8
Aces of the Luftwaffe
ARC Squadron: Redux
ArgamasA
Armacore (reported by azkikr7)
Asphalt 8 (reported by quimeravirus)
Beach Buggy Blitz
Choplifter HD
Cracking Sands

Cross Hearts Arcadia
Dead Trigger (reported on 4PDA.ru)
Death Rally
Doom GLES
Dungeon Hunter 4 (reported by azkikr7)
Everland
Expendables: Rearmed
Final Fury
G-Bikes
Grand Theft Auto 3 (reported by nestorian)
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (reported by leeroybrown, but see Joe's observations in thread)

Reckless Racing
Reckless Racing 2
Riptide GP
Riptide GP 2
Shine Runner
Sine Mora
Sonic 4 Episode II
Sonic CD
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Virtua Tennis Challenge
The Walking Dead: Season One (reported by quimeravirus)
Wave Blazer

Partially working controls:
Air Attack HD**
AirFighter*
Alien Breed****
Another World - control works, but some actions are missed
Armageddon Squadron - control works except fire button
Blue X Zero**
Borstal*
Dead Industrial*
Dead on Arrival 2 - control works, but player's character cannot fire; "Unknown controller detected".
Deadly Dungeons*
Dokuro - control works, but game endlessly pulls player's character to the right side
Invasion: Alien vs Monster 2*
J.A.M.*
Killer Quest*
KRE-O CityVille Invasion*
Meltdown - similarly to Dead on Arrival 2, you cannot fire with right stick, everything else is working
Mini Motor Racing**
MiniSquadron*
MiniZ Racers*
NBA 2K14 - some actions are unavaiable (reported by Pegoncology)
Neon Shadow****
Painkiller: Purgatory*
Pixel Run*
Red Bull X-Fighters*
Speed Bombing*
Star-Draft: Space Control**
Tank Riders****
They Need to be Feed*
ToonWarz*
Twisted Shotgun Panic Cave!*
Unreal Tanks 3D - Only RIGHT stick is partially working
Wraithborne***

*Only LEFT stick and/or D-pad is working
**Only one or few buttons are working
***Shoulder buttons aren't working
****Right stick isnn't working

Problems with games:
Blazing Star (doesn't work)
Don't Fall in the Hole (causes freezes & reboots)
Duke Nukem 3D (doesn't work)
FreeFall Tournament (cannot pass device detection screen)
Jet Set Radio (crashes after loading screen)
The King of Fighters'97 (doesn't work)
Metal Slug (doesn't work)
Metal Slug 2 (doesn't work)
Metal Slug 3 (doesn't work)
Metal Slug X (doesn't work)
R-Type (doesn't work)
Raging Thunder (doesn't work)
Ravensword: Shadowlands (stuck at the first screen with poor graphic)
Samurai Shodown 2 (doesn't work)
ToonWarz (crashes all the time)

My current list. All tests were made on JXD 1.1.4 official firmware.

So far, I've tested only small number of games, unfortunately. I should blame wonderful Meltdown from Bulkypix, I spent dozens of hours playing it for two last weeks (if you didn't tried it, don't hesitate - it's free on Google Play, 3D hi-tech isometrical shooter with online cooperative multiplayer; runs perfect on S7800b!).
If you want to help me with this list, please tell what games works for you. Also don't feel shy to recommend some great ones to community here. Every contribution will be greatly appreciated!

Just to clarify though, Meltdown doesn't natively support the S7800 controls though, does it? I installed it and tried "gamepad" mode, but it didn't respond. How are you playing it? (how are you mapping the controls?)

This list is for the Shield, but some of the games might work for the 7800 as well: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Al_tgDiSllFFdGhJQ3p3d1JDTU0wS3IyNjVxdDB6MVE&usp=sharing#gid=3

You're absolute right, it doesn't support controls natively, which is surely strange. The other day I've sent a letter to the Bulkypix's support about few small issues I've noticed, and mentioned the fact that game cannot recognise JXD S7800b controls. Maybe they will look for that, who knows? I'm currently using JXD mapper, I settled on L2 as "weapon 1", R2 as "weapon 2" and R1 as "melee/roll". Works fine.

Thank you, I was looking for something like this list as basis for tests, it will help us for sure. As you can see above, there may be some unobvious differences in devices, presumably software. When I was about to start this thread I thought that a multi-devices list (Shield/Archos/IBEN/MOGA/JXD/Xperia Play etc.) could be better. I think better way to collect that information may be Dingoonity Wiki table for all relevant devices with collective contribution.

Thank you, azkikr7. Currently I'm testing games from Shield's list and from my own library of purchased games which consist of few hundreds. But as everyone knows, not every mobile game is suitable for physical controls, so genres like strategy, tower defense and touchscreen-based action is obvious exception from the tests. Moreover, I think that traditional tablets is more suitable for them because of its flat form-factor.
Once initial batch of tests will be done, I will update my own list with your contributions and my own results.

In process of testing of previously known games I had to re-evaluate some of them, because now, with decent physical controls, even mediocre Android games like Acceler8 are able to bring a lot of fun. When I first tried Riptide GP, I thought it's pretty much the average racing game in not so usual setting. Now I think it will grow a firm roots on my S7800b/future gaming devices.

Thank you, added.
I've updated first post of this thread with first results of my tests. Looks like games from Sega, Polarbit, Vector Unit and Orange Pixel detects JXD S7800b controls in general. Also, there is no game from SNK Playmore which can be played on official firmware.

GTA San Andreas uses the physical controls but it's not 100% correct.

other then the somewhat sub optimal control layout it also map's the horn/submission/duck buttons to non existent L3/R3 (these are the buttons you get if you press IN on the PS2 joysticks)

Since the 7800 lacks a l3/r3 there is no way to activate the horn, sub missions, or duck.

You could arguably get by without duck or sub missions, but I do believe a few missions later on require the horn to complete.

Tin mapper can fix this but you have 2 options.
1. is to pay for analog mapping.
2. setup a profile with just sub mission/horn/duck, then activate profile, use the button you need, then deactivate to get back to naively mapped controls.

Tin core does not allow partial mapping of controls. it's all or nothing.
So even if you just want to remap 1 button you have to fill out the rest of the controls.. it will not pass thru unmapped controls.

Analog is a premium feature. The app will nag you about it as soon as you touch an analog stick even if you haven't mapped it to anything..

EX: create a new blank profile.. DO NOT MAP ANYTHING AT ALL.. hit activate.
Soon as you touch the analog it will nag you even though the analog is not mapped and not used.

There is no physical controls adjustment in game, otherwise this would be a non issue.
I believe there is a similar problem on vice city and III, although I've not played either of those.

Another problem found with San Andreas.
Later in the game there is a mission called Yay ka boom boom.
You have to drive a bomb rigged car to a drug warehouse to blow it up.

problem? "A" button arms the bomb.. which just so happens to be the button used for "gas"
so.... basicly I ended up having to drive the car there in reverse.. not fun :(

no, I think I read shield users also have similar problems,

all this goes away if they would just have added a menu to adjust control layout

they have one for touch screen controls but not for physical, it also hides most touch screen controls when you use physical controls so it's not like you can compensate by switching to touch screen during those problem times.

theoretically you could probably find a working layout with tincore.
assuming it does'nt think "arm bomb" and "gas" should always be the same button.

it could so happen that they're 2 seperate inputs but the "A" button on the 78 matches (close enough) to both those it's looking for.. I dunno.
