they must have fixed the stock firmware on the pap kiii plus!
« on: December 06, 2018, 04:13:52 pm »
So I got my pap kiii plus in today, and lo-and-behold not only do the megadrive, master system, cps, neo-geo and game gear games run great, as everyone said, so do all the snes, gameboy and gameboy color games I tried. WITH PERFECT SOUND! Especially the snes is amazing! I tried donkey kong country, star ocean, toy story, super mario world and super mario RPG so far (all included with the device!) and all run 100% speed with no frameskip and 100% perfect sound, both in handheld mode and connected to my old CRT television (which is why I got this device, playing older consoles and watching old anime on the CRT screen as they were meant to).

I also put the english-patched tales of phantasia rom for snes on there as well, a game using multiple special techniques and chips, and surely enough the entire cd-quality opening song with vocals plays 100% perfectly and full speed! (and with the text perfect to boot!) <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pj-r7-ChkIo" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pj-r7-ChkIo</a>

They must have changed the emulators, but boy is this awesome!

Oh and super mario brothers on NES actually works perfectly as well, at first in handheld mode I had strange sound (sped up) but when using on PAL CRT Television it sounds perfect! So it must be a PAL rom being forced to run faster then it wants, me thinks - but anyway, it can't be an emulator issue!

I did put tales of phantasia on there via micro sd card in my computer, not directly connecting the console to pc via mini-usb though, since seller where I bought it warned me that that might break the console by deleting important system files!

Battery is fine too, no issues, just works.

I am in heaven!

EDIT: in case someone "suddenly" wants to buy it from the same seller I got it from to be sure they get this version (box and everything is 100% the same) , here it is: https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/4-3-inch-Handheld-Video-Game-Console-build-in-1300-no-repeat-game-for-NEOGEO-CPS/32824646911.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.b2704c4dsp2Xts although it's ~43 euros there shipped instead of ~34 but at this quality that's still basically getting a freebie, so I can't recommend everyone highly enough to get it!! :)

I don't know if there is a difference in emulation quality but you never know with this Chinese devices, so I recommend everyone to get the exact same version I have, the 16 gb 3000 game white one =)

Amazing news! I'm wondering, would it be possible to dump the firmware of this console somehow?
I have a PAP Gameta II and although the specs are a more or less same as the old KIII plus,  it was loaded with rubbish firmware, nothing on it run with full speed :'( Maybe the new emulators extract from this firmware will bring a new life for it !

Maybe you can, but I am pretty sure I would have to open it and I am terrified to break it so sorry man. Also the seller on aliexpress mentioned very clearly (big warning in the product description) that this version should not be directly connected to a pc via usb as apparently important system files may/will be deleted... I don't understand either but given that I can also just as easily transfer content directly to the microsd and put it back in when I am done, I am not going to risk it :O

In the meantime, have a longer video showing how perfectly donkey kong country runs even when using tv-out:

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovSMa02w-uU" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovSMa02w-uU</a>

It's so great being able to play old games like these on a CRT when at home - just more authentic in a certain way! XD

Out of curiousity, how does donkey kong country 1 (snes) run on your console? Is it one of the majority of games that runs badly?

The other big reason I got it - to watch old animu on crt - works pefectly as well:

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWrSfmqOlXE" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWrSfmqOlXE</a>

I did find out that even another rom of mario kart gba had same issues, so that must be emu issue, but i dont really care, just happy they include a perfect snes emu now :)

I'm sorry because can't record a video with my setup, but I found a pretty good clip that showing the old Pap Gameta II running some snes games, including donkey kong country 2!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2ZP3m2wzik

Coincidentally, I also found a clip of a new released console named "Pap gameta 2 plus 16gbs" !!!

The emulators seems to running faster in comparison with the old ones. If someone able to dump the firmware, would be super nice ...

I am sorry, I would really like to help but I don't want to risk my device. However, I think I just found the manufacturer's site, http://www.ylmchina.com/en/product.asp I am pretty sure you could ask them to send you the firmware file ;) Or ask a seller on aliexpress if they have a download link. :)

But eh... don't shoot me, but honestly to me most of the games in the first vid seem to be running at full speed?? At least super mario world and donkey kong country 2? I assume frameskip is set to 0 which is default, so then with slowdowns you should be able to hear them right? :O
