You need to download the first beta first install that by opening your device and flashing the .img to the memory card. Then you just follow the upgrade guide here on the new official v1 firmware.

I vaguely remember you saying upgraded your memory card.

I have a 32GB micro SD card, can I simply flash the Stewarts CFW onto that instead and stick it in the console instead of the 4GB internal or do I need to transfer or stuff from do something with the 4GB internal first.

So just to recap:

If you don't have any previous version of the custom beta OS installed, just DL the .img files for the CFW v1.0 and flash it onto your internal SD card.

If you do have a previous version of the custom beta OS installed, then you need to use the update files intead.

Have I got this right?

Yes, you are right !
thanks for your information.

Yes thank you Steward I can't wait to try it out.

How do I install it. I don't have the beta installed and I just downloaded CFW v1.0 r20180213(EN), I have some questions about installation.

-

Is  CFW v1.0 r20180213(EN) all I need to install or do I need to download the Beta first or something?

Do I put that on my SD Card or internal memory? How much space does it take up?

If I put it on an SD Card and the SD card gets removed what happens?

I have Jacks DMenu installed on an SD Card, do I need to remove it or something?

Can I switch between the new menu and the old or access the old emulators or does it straight ip replace everything.

Do I need to back up my files somewhere before I install?

What is the ROMS partition, I don't see a folder marked ROMS?

-

Sorry if these questions seem really dumb, I'm new at this and I don't want to make any mistakes.

It's probably cleaner to just flash the new image.
- Download the very last link he posted, unzip the rar and that has the .img
- use whatever flashing tool is available for your OS, I'm on linux so I used dd with the bs=4M option (seemed to work better than the default) win32flasher is the option for windows I think. Macs also have dd, although the syntax might be different.
-Flash the .img to the internal SD.
-Expand and format the ROM partition to fat32 if you have an SD card bigger than 4 gigs
- Plug the SD card back in, boot the system up and use the explorer and run the cfw_upgrade

Also, thank you @Steward for all the effort you put into this man. Enjoy your new years and I'm sure this thread will be eagerly awaiting your return.

I don't know what this means... I am like the least tech literate person when it comes to this stuff. I am guessing it means the RS-97 will still read my 32GB micro sd card as a 4GB SD card unless I set up something that is called a partition... I need to download this minitool which the website is saying is for computer harddrives but I guess I can use it for micro sd cards too.

1. So I delete everything on the 32GB micro SD card
2. Open this minitool thing, find the SD card part of the program and have it extend my partition, anything else I should know?
3. Take this file retrogame_cfw_v1.0_os_v20180213_en.img and flash it to the blank now partitioned somehow micro sd card.
4. Unscrew device, take out 4GB SD Card add in 32gb one with just the cfw_v1.0 flashed to it, turn on device and it all works or will I have made an awful mess of things...

Yes I am very self aware at how utterly clueless I am, trust me.

even I test it before release as possible as I could, but I cannot cover all of unexpected issues.
if you suffer from any issue, please use *.IMG file
thanks

Will there be any benefit from using a faster SD card?

And I wasn't clear on the advantage of having an internal card that is larger than 4 gbs.  Can you place roms directly on the internal card, which would be slightly faster than on the external?

I have all the screws out.

3 on the back
1 for the battery door
1 in the battery compartment
1 under the kcard

but it doesn't seem to want to come apart. Anything I'm missing?

Edit: Never mind I got it.

He probaby means the two halves aren't splitting. He should press down on the shoulder buttons and push apart in the gap left.

Okay everything worked, it's running the new OS, thank you everyone for all the help.

One problem left though. I have no roms on the device. I've plugged it into 2 computers, it asks "what do you want to do" and offers me charge only and USBDisk. I select USBDisk and nothing happens. How do I access this devices internal memory?

leave it connect by usb and reboot the device. Let it ask you again and again select usbdisk. Should show up in Windows explorer then.

The first time I did it and since I was nervous I found splitting the two halves awkward. Mainly because I didn't want to break anything. Once you do it a few times then it's child's play.
