Hi people,
Here is a release of ReGBA (GBA emulator) for the RetroMini / RS-90 running OpenDingux.
The OPK can be downloaded here: https://app.box.com/s/e3no5tjvjxxlz9senns2t3xw8d5xo3nr
The sources are available here: https://github.com/pcercuei/ReGBA/tree/rs90
Just like the GCW Zero, drop the OPK file inside the data/apps folder and it will automatically appear in the menu.
The games can be in any subfolder of the "home" directory, or placed onto the SD card. Note that the games cannot be zipped, as the data is loaded on-the-fly from the ROM (because of the small RAM).
The internal menu can be accessed by pressing SELECT and START at the same time.
Enjoy!

Getting fullspeed with a slight overclock, the difference in experience from regular fw feels so great!
-
I can play games from the internal memory fine however when I start a rom from my sdcard it gets stuck on "loading per-game settings".
-
I can't even see my games on sd card ? all unzipped

Naming the FAT32 partition worked.
-
Seeing the SD card is fine. So far I can't get games to load from it though.
-
yep, naming the volume of the SD card in windows allowed it to show up in OpenDingux, but ReGBA doesn't seem to want to load any ROMs from it. it gets stuck on "loading per-game settings".
-
its now been fixed look at the update i have tested it and now works fine
-
Definitely curious to know if we can expect any other apps in the coming days.
-
Thank you very much, the emulator works! I put the games on a memory card, the emulator sees them. Nice work boys! Could you replace gba_bios.bin on original? This will give 99% compatibility. Now not work: Bubble Bobble, Elevator...
-
You can run the actual GBA bios by putting it in the .gpsp folder.
-
thank you! It's working! :)
-
Any chance moving this to the sticky releases appreciated thanks.

Am I an idiot or what?
So with the new instruction (windows 10 in safe mode) I was able to flash my RS-90.
So the RS 90 has no apps installed, ok.
But in order to install an app I have to ftp?
How do I ftp if the RS-90 does not have an ftp app installed? How will i be able to connect and transfer?
How do I transfer the .opk to the RS-90?
-
Just make a folder called apps on the root of the sd card then they will automatically be installed you don't need the .opk files on the rs90 it saves valuable space too.

you are quite an idiot, yeah ;D ;D
just joking, the ftp is enabled by default, no app needed. You just to have to use filezilla or something like that on yout pc

Getting fullspeed with a slight overclock, the difference in experience from regular fw feels so great!
I tested some games at 458 MHz (overclocked)
Games tested so far
mario Brothers 3 (snes version) runs awesome, 100%
pacman collection runs 100%
Metal slug almost always 60 fps, sometimes slightly down
zelda minish cap had some framedrops in the intro, but played a few minutes 60 fps in game
Fzero Maximum velocity runs at 60 fps (100%)
Metroid Fusion runs at 60 fps (100%)
Gradius Advance runs at full speed 60 fps (100%)
Wario Advance runs at full speed 60 fps (100%)
But
sega collection (outrun) runs at less than 50%.
F zero climax runs at 80% as well.
So, the conclusion so far is that many many many many games run perfect and a very very small few not so perfect. Even when overclocked.
This a a really really great emu!

This may be a little bit too much to ask, but here I go:
Is the battery reading accurate? For the life of me I cannot get an accurate reading on Open Dingux. Also, is there any way to modify the brightness of the screen?

The battery support isn't calibrated, so it might show the battery is half-empty when it is in fact full.
You can modify the brightness if you log in via ssh/telnet, but there is no GUI for it at the moment. This is asked quite often, so I think it would be useful to add brightness control to the menu.

So I tested a few more games
Astro Boy runs fine
Gunstar Super Heroes runs fine
super Mario Advance 2 runs fine
Sonic Advance 2 runs fine, change the bios option! (Posting Edit)
and
Miss Pacman does not work (after third introscreen nothing happens)
bubble bobble does not work (screen black)
NES Super Mario Bros does not run (black screen)
-
Sonic Advance 2 does not run (black messed up introscreen)
That's a bit surprising to hear considering reGBA can run that game on the RS-97 & GCW0.
That game though does require that you change the "Boot from" setting to "GBA Bios".
Btw while i'm here, there were some games like Kingdom Hearts in GPSP 0.9.1 where you could bypass the FMV intro by loading/saving after it crashes during the intro. Such a feat doesn't work with reGBA though.
Perhaps that's something worth looking into ?

I'm ready to buy as price is very attractive.
Is GBA emulation on this device good enough so I can finally retire/sell my GBA SP?

Emulation is sufficiently good (think gpSP/PSP era GBA emulation), but the device is not intended to be a replacement for your GBA SP. It's simply a conveniently small device you can use while traveling.

Yeah thanks Surkow, I'll hang onto my SP but I missed out on a GBA micro, so the retromini looks like the next best thing

Buy it, but it does not play all GBA games. But it is worth the money!

Will there ever be a way to use cheats on this? Maybe GBAATM would work?
-
Looks like R-Type III locks the handheld up when going ingame. The RS-90 is flashed with the latest fw. Is the opk from the fist post the latest build available?
