psx4all compatibility list
« on: August 30, 2018, 11:24:50 am »
Been thinking on getting a RS-97 and kinda curious about PS1 emulation on it

also this could be a good thread for people to know what games are playable and which are not

We would need an online Google doc spreadsheat like the one for the GCW0 version.
As for my personal experience, Digimon World runs fullspeed on it. (though, it requires the BIOS)
Digimon Rumble Arena is pretty slow and suffer from regressions since a few versions back. (also requires BIOS)
In the Hunt also runs smoothly. (HLE works fine here)

I admit that is all i've tried so far...

Ray Tracers works well since the updated emulator, not far off full speed. Just about everything else 3D has been pretty slow though. I wouldn't buy this if you want to emulate a PS1, honestly the best budget console for that is still a PSP 2000 or 3000.
Handhelds:
GPD Win, GPD XD 64gb, PlayGo, RS-90, 3DS XL, DSi XL, GBA SP, GBBC Clone, Gameboy Pocket c/w screen mod, PSP Go
PC:
Medion Erazer, Toshiba Z20t, Dell Mini 9, Psion 5MX
Tons of other old laptops and tablets.....

Here's my testing so far. SCPH1001 bios, Frameskip set to Auto, otherwise default settings. All tested games are my personal converted eboots other than FF Tactics which is an img file.

Mega Man X 3: Works Well

Final Fantasy Tactics: Slow Cut Scenes with some graphics distortion. Very playable.

Castlevania SOTN: Works well. (Runs better with bios enabled, but text is is missing in places during dialogue. All text is present without bios, but runs a bit slower.)

The Raiden Project: Works well. Set screen to Panorama in the options, otherwise the right bar is glitched. Small dead space, but very playable.

G-Darius: Works Well

Azure Dreams: Loads, but text is unreadable in many places. Would be difficult to get through.

Ogre Battle MotBQ: Works well.

R-Types: Works Well

R-Type Delta: Not full speed, but very playable.

Raycrisis: Not full speed, but playable.

Can I ask you how you are able to change the settings in the emulator? What button combo brings up the menu? I've been trying everything and I can't make it appear. Thanks.

Hit select start to bring up the menu in psx4all.

The simpler puzzle games work really well from my experience.

Block Kuzushi Kawashite Help!
Hebereke's Popoitto
Tecmo Stackers
Sorcerer's Maze
Puchi Carat
Pop n' Pop

I can't believe I missed that. Thank you!

So far, Metal Slug X and Marvel vs Capcom work great. The only issue I have is getting MSX's audio to work.

for me the games i currently have running good are Harmful park, Rapid reload, sexy parodius, and gradius. Most games i have tried have not worked well for me. many of them that did run on much older compatibility lists dating to 2009.

How playable are we talking about?

All of these are fairly playable, from decent to great. Couple like THPS 2 for example need frameskipping adjusted to 1 and it?s playable (i?m Always on The Tony hawks at the moment). Anything that was running to slow I just got rid of so this list could be 3x longer but if it ran too slow or did?nt function to well....see ya....
I?ve noticed some people have games running that I could?nt get running past the menu screen, such as raiden project....intro ran perfect but could?nt load from start options. A few games seemed to be like that. I guess it?s gonna depend on your game source...
Admittedly I have?nt completed many of these games so it?s possible to run into glitches here and there but I have tested first part of gameplay on all and they all work.

Now some games are .pbp files, some are .bin with .cue to activate the .bin (a lot of the times .cue is?nt necessary but I ran them like that anyway). Now if you have some that are .PBP files you will need to change them to lower case .pbp, there are other file types as well so play around with changing them to .bin or .pbp (I think I have a cupl .iso files as well), remember to just change them by txt (u don?t need to try and translate or anything special- just delete and type on pc or in commander etc). I preferred to get .pbp (which by the way are game files translated to play on psp handheld and I think the psp read them as ebooks) and are generally a compressed version of games and don?t take up too much space. You will get a couple of games that have like a dozen .bin files numbered 1 through to whatever, let?s say 12...they will usually have a .cue file to run them if not just run the first file and they should be cool (also I place them in they?re own folder in the roms menu)

Now....don?t expect to have perfect gaming experiences on the psx4all we all know why we get the rs97 and that?s because it?s the cheapest hh out there that has maximum possibilities....for its price... so take it for what it is but know that you can definitely play a decent amount of ps1 games and still have fun!

Lastly none of this would be at all possible, which i?m Sure we all know by now, without Gameblabla, pingflood, jutley and numerous others so respect to them and the community efforts....

I would be curious to know what settings were used for destruction derby. for me it locks up trying to access most the menus. also, there is no menu cursor so changing the in game settings is nearly impossible. I have managed to get the default settings to work and play a single race but thats about it.

It has to be said though, for a full 3d game, it runs extremely well. As Riverinwoods said, without everyone involved this would not be possible.

Yea just went back and played it to double check, and I can do a race that runs fine but like you said, it locks up after one race....

I saw on another forum that this emulator is running at the wrong resolution?
Also saw a picture of Tekken 3 running on this device?

Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Mega Man 8 both run at full speed.  Literally no problems with either so far.

I have a version of Tekken 3 with the all the Music removed, this drops the file size to 48MB... I also have a version of Ridge Racer with the audio removed, this drops in at 3MB.

I will test them and report my findings :)

PS Shame about Destruction Derby, I love that game... Shame it never got a release on any other consoles.

I?ve seen some videos from 10 years ago of people playing a few notable PSX titles that I haven?t seen discussed. Do those games exist for RS-97 play? Anyone tried them? Here?s a some videos of the others:

TWISTED METAL 4
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zVdSPa_q7z4

METAL GEAR SOLID
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fnmfW-fP8z0&t=221s

I would think both would play better now with the advancements. Metal Gear seems like it could work in a way because it always played slow and stealthy anyway.

Anyone tried these?
