PMP IV $24 JZ4725P/B handheld
« on: March 23, 2018, 06:03:56 pm »
So today I received this neat little handheld, which uses the same processor as the retro mini :D
Hopefully we can get some development going for this processor!

Here's some pics!

Mostly it's the same as the retro mini, although sound emulation seems to be even worse (?) or on par while emulation itself seems to be slightly better.

Some data:

70mb internal memory (or 2gb?)
folder structure:
  • EBOOK
  • GAME
  • GMPIC
  • MUSIC
  • PICTURE
  • SAVE
  • SYSTEM
  • VIDEO
The cps1 games are .zip format.
GMPIC contains a <title.format>_a.png and <title.format>_b.png, each 110x80 pixels (didn't try other dimensions yet).
SYSTEM contains cpslist.txt, gamelist.txt, gconfig.txt and system.cfg
cpslist and gamelist each contain all games with their respective file ending which are displayed in that order on the handheld.
gconfig.txt sets the title text of your games list. At least that's what I thought, but when I changed it nothing changed on the system, so who knows what it actually does.

In the system settings, the internal memory is listed as 2GB.
When I opened it up there was some sticky foam on the LCD ribbon connector. I removed it and then the display stopped working, so the cable seems to be quite wonky. stuffed some folded paper in and it works again :P
Oh and the sound resets every time you start up the handheld, which means an annoying startup tune every time. No playing in secret for you!

Sorry if the text it a little messy :P

oh woops :P lemme correct that
edit: wait... in the photo it looks like a P xD maybe the rest of the B is just scratched off?

edit2: after playing some minutes of GBA games I noticed two things: you can press L&R at the same time and still use the Dpad, but L and R are inverted :P

I bought one of these on a whim for $11.  It's definitely worth that. :)  100's of GBA stuff on there, as well as the usual MD, NES, NeoGeo, etc.

Struggles to perform in many areas. Sound is "draggy". I actually like the buttons and pad. This is a decent NES and MD emulator. All else is pretty poor. Screen is nice and bright.

wait $11? where? :D
also does your unit have screen beeping as well? the lower mine is dimmed the louder the beeping is (prolly due to the bad cable connection).
