Playgo /pocket go v2 volume fix
« on: January 15, 2020, 04:27:20 pm »
Hello, I wanted to share my solution for the loud volume on these devices. I used a 220 resistor on the speaker wire to greatly reduce the main volume.

Cool!
How is the sound now?
Can you give us a rough % change?

Not sure about % but with the 220 resistor the max volume setting is still lower than the regular lowest volume setting. It's no longer annoying to others around me when I play and I can actually play in bed without disturbing the wife.

Huh, so that means that the volume issue is actually with hardware, and not software?

Since I'm not a dev I'm not sure. But I did see a comment from the rouge firmware dev that it is possibly a hardware issue.

Since I'm not a dev I'm not sure. But I did see a comment from the rouge firmware dev that it is possibly a hardware issue.

In the Sound Mixer application "AlsaMixer v1.0.26", I can see that the Headphone volume can be controlled independently of the system's master volume. It can be gained from +6.00 to -25.00.
But the speaker volume can't be controlled independent of the master volume, the PCM.

The PCM ranges from 100% (dB gain 0.00) to 32% (dB gain -30.00), but can't go any lower than that, it simply mutes if you go any lower.

This is all that I can see anyway, I'm not all that knowledgeable about sound hardware, so no clue if this is software, or just the software working with the limits of the hardware.

I do that with 100ohm and it works perfect. Not to loud and not to quietly on the loudest step.

This is one of the things they should have not changed from the PG1 (volume knob)... just a thin piece of clear tape works pretty well btw for those not electrically inclined to make a permanent change to their PG2.
