Anyone had trouble running cps1/2/neogeo using the alternative emulator section?   it brings the file selector, but selecting the specific rom brings it back to dmenu after a few seconds.    Tried it with cold boot too.

Same results here, all 3 are not working. May have to edit the themes.cfg to point to the Stock emulator. (They all use the same one). Should be a fix till someone figures out what's going on.

Good news is the C64 emu works OK

You can run the stock emulators just fine by going to the emulators menu (rather than alternative emulators).  Then cps1/2/neogeo works fine (but with the disadvantage of having distorted audio

Sounds good, thanks for the suggestion. All the emus I've tried (except Amiga, haven't tried that one) work well. This is one great little handheld.

I tried the Amstrad cpc and Spectrum emulators and are working well as well as pc engine

Tried also the atari st and seems working but no games tried whatsoever

Mame4all instead doesn't work (resolution problem and exist to menu)

Wasn?t this easier using Gmenu2x? I think there was a way to add new emulators/games/apps inside the menu itself
Yes, but I don't like the look of gmenu2x and dmenu was easy to adapt

@Verdugo you have to open up the device, remove the sd-card and use dd on linux or Win32DiskImager on windows to create an image of the sd-card.

@algorithm The alternative emulator  for CPS/NeoGeo is a port of FBA 0.2.96.86. You need other roms for it. The old fba format is not supported

Got round to installing this today and it works brilliantly so thanks for all the hard work, special thanks for the better sms emulator with proper scaling. It turns a decent console into a very good one.

A few notes of caution for anyone not familiar with taking devices apart:
- The screen ribbon cable is one of those thin cheap types and looks like it rips easily so be careful.
- The latch that connects the ribbon cable is very stiff so be careful with that too.
- If using Win32DiskImager then just read the first partition, you should end up with the whole SD being imaged.

Also which is the correct Doom app to get - EDIT - never mind got it

Would it be possible to install the new firmware without opening the console?

Sure, you only need to open it to make an image of the internal SD card, I assume in case something goes wrong. You can actually download the firmware image here though so you're probably ok, do it at your own risk and everything:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0wz_n5he9GpQW96allVTUJNSnM/view

All you do is extract the three folders you downloaded from this thread to the root of your external SD and clicking on a file from the console's file manager. That's it really.

I used the option to go back to the old menu in Dmenu and now it does not go back to Dmenu. Is there an easy way I am not seeing?  ::)

They use old Nokia batteries, BP-4L which are 3.7v 1200mah. My battery doesn't last that long, maybe a couple of hours or so of gaming. They are cheap to replace and easily available though, if you get a generic charger you can have a few batteries spare.

I've ordered a supposed 3030mah version from dealextreme which is on it's way:

The internal storage is merely a micro sd card correct? No doubt it's a cheap unbranded one so would there be any benefit of cloning it and replacing it with a good quality micro sd? I haven't got the device yet so I'm merely speculating.

what i would do is get a backup and get the custom d menu installed on it asap then run your roms from ext sd.

I have a PAP Gameta II Plus. I can verify that this also works from that handheld.

Is this hack quite stable and any freezing or bugs?
