Title: Nickz & Friendz SUPERMENU for PAP-KIII Plus [NEW v19 X-Mas Edition]

Here is a minor update with some x-mas theming for the holidays. I plan to give one of these devices as a gift, and so I wanted to simplify things and give it some holiday flair.

Changes:
- There are now 43 standalone games, thanks to FranckyRocky. There were a few more that could have been included, but I removed a few that I thought were not up to the standard of the rest.
- "Best Emulators" has been whittled down to 11 systems.
- You can now play SegaCD/MegaCD ROMs in the normal Genesis/Mega Drive emulator, so I have removed the separate link for SegaCD/MegaCD
- Similarly, you can now play Famicom Disk System ROMs in the normal Nintendo/Famicom emulator, so I removed the FDS link
- You can now use ROMs that have the file extension capitalized or non-capitalized (e.g., *.pbp or *.PBP) without issue.

Enjoy, and happy holidays!

VERSION 18

Thanks to Franckyrocky's hard work, we now have 21 more standalone games, 10 new emulators, and overclocking! Since this represents a substantial upgrade, it no longer felt right to call the menu simply "Nickz" and so I have updated the name. The menu will henceforth be known as "Nickz & Friendz SUPERMENU" to better acknowledge the hard work of contributors such as Franckrocky, as well as the ongoing support of LBL Gamer and GhostManNoob, and the borrowed elements from menus created by LBL Gamer, Jack83, Gameblabla, and others.

Changes:
- Added a "Standalone Games" section with the following games: Arkanoid, Boulder Dash, Duke Nukem 3D, Freedroid, Ganbare!, Great Giana Sisters, Giana Returns, Hexen, Jazz Jackrabbit, Mr. Driller, NOIZ2SA, Pang, Quake, Quake II, Rage of the Streets, Rise of the Triad, Shadow Warrior, Spear of Destiny, Super Tux, Sqrxz III, Tyrion, Vectoroids, and Wolfenstein 3D
- Nintendo/Famicom Disk System added to "Best Emulators"
- Sega CD/Mega-CD added to "Best Emulators"
- Atari 800, Atari ST, NEC PC-9801, Pokemon Mini, ScummVM, Sega VMU, Thomson TO7, TI-99/4A, Wonderswan, and ZX Spectrum added to "More Emulators"
- Quake II and Paradroid have been moved from "Best Emulators" to "Standalone Games"
- Paradroid renamed to "Freedroid"
- Sega Game Gear in "Best Emulators" now uses the Dingux SMS-SDL emulator
- Older Sega Game Gear emulator moved to "Backup Emulators"
- Overclocking options located in new "Processor Speed" section in "System Settings"
- Additional boxart and wallpapers added by Franckyrocky
- New icons for the new games/systems, and improvements to some existing icons

Essentially, this new version incorporates almost all of Franckyrocky's additions, but organized to better fit within the existing sections/theming of the old Nickz Menu v17. I did remove the FBA Capex emulator included by Franckyrocky (because it did not fit the screen well and seemed unnecessary given the other two arcade emulators), as well as the standalone games Beat 2X (the controls did not seem to work) and Flashback (which had badly distorted sound).

The next step will be to try and incorporate boxart and freeware/public domain ROMs for the new systems. I will also attempt to get more of the new standalone games and emulators to run in full screen. Those improvements will follow in an eventual future version.

Changes:

- Added approx 1,100 more boxart/gameplay images (there are now about 7,100 total).
- Added more wallpapers (there are now about 325 total).
- Resized some menu icons to have less space between them.
- Relocated wallpaper and boxart images to the "dmenu" folder in order to keep the "Pictures" folder clean.
- Further image file size minimization.
- Consolidated ROM location and filetype instructions into the main README text file.
- Removed some of the non-working PD/homebrew ROMs.
- Moved some PD/homebrew ROMs from GameBoy to ComeBoy Color, and vice versa.
- Changed the options in the "Pictures" Menu (the new options are: Use Camera, View Camera Photos, View Controller Layouts, View Wallpapers, & View Pictures Folder).
- The "View Controller Layouts" option points to a series of images that I made showing the controller layouts for the various systems, in case you or I need them on the go.

You can also view the controller layout diagrams here: https://imgur.com/a/yQoeo8D (https://imgur.com/a/yQoeo8D)

Changes:

-Box art/gameplay previews are now working!
-I have included as much artwork as possible for the included Public Domain/Homebrew ROMs, as well as images (mostly in combo coverart/logo/screenshot format) for over 6,000 games across all of the systems in the "Best Emulators" section.
-All of the pictures have been properly sized to work well on the screen, and have been optimized for minimum file sizes.

All you have to do is make sure the name of your ROM matches the name of the corresponding picture in the "/pictures/boxart/[system]" folder. You can rename the picture or the ROM, whichever you prefer.

More Info:

I don't know what happened, but the stock NeoGeo and Capcom emulators in my device stopped working. It just goes to a blank screen and I have to hard reset the device. I'm not sure if it's a defect in my menu or something else, but my menu code is basically identical to the others and just points to the internal emulator. Please let me know if anybody else has this problem. My best guess is that my friend--who was playing NeoGeo at the time--may have gotten into the emu settings and changed something that I now have no have no way to change back. Oh well.

Anyway, this lined up with a request here on the forum for a better NeoGeo emu, so I added in the one from Gameblabla's RS-07 menu. It works better than the stock one (for me anyway lol), so it has been placed in "Best Emulators" while the the stock one has been demoted.

I made a few changes to the menus. "Alternate Emulators" has been renamed "Backup Emulators" to further clarify that they are the non-preferred options. "Theme" and "System" have been changed to "Menu Settings" and "System Settings," respectively, to better clarify their functionality. Some icons have been cleaned up and/or replaced.

More importantly, I consolidated the menu items for NeoGeo and Capcom into a single "Arcade" option. Since both the new and stock emulators were doing both systems anyway (and should also emulate more than those), I decided it was easier to have one menu option.

It then seemed logical to have a single "arcade" folder in the "ROMS" folder, into which all games for that emulator could be dumped. You can create sub-folders for the various systems if you like, or mix the systems together in the same folder. You decide! The important thing to remember is that this new version (v12) no longer points to the "neogeo" or "cps1" or "cps2" folders on the SD card. Instead, it will point to the "arcade" folder.

The new emulator being used for arcade games is FinalBurn Alpha v0.2.96.86. I have had good luck with games in the romset for FBA v0.2.96.74  (including Neo Turf Masters!).

DOWNLOAD: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1dm12H4-qw-bauYEzaPvNifWdwbkp9WvJ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYVCQQPRmeY

Changes:

- TV Out (outputs in 4:3 aspect ratio)
- Adjustable screen brightness (10% to 100% in 5% increments)
- Adjustable screen backlight timeout (only applies to menu)
- Moved menu-related options to "Theme" section
- Icon tweaks and other minor adjustments

Besides possible refinements, there is not much else I can do. I have been unable to find a MAME emulator that will work, and I lack the skills to make one myself. I think USB file transfer is disabled on the motherboard of the 16gb model (mine never worked, even with the default software), so I have no way to test whether it would work on a 4gb. FM radio will probably never work (all I have been able to do is load the settings).

Thanks for the support. Even though there was only slight interest so far, it motivated me to keep going at a much faster pace. Enjoy!

-Brightness now locked at 22% instead of 18%

Here is version 9, with working PlayStation and Quake 2 Emulators!!!!

It turns out that the RetroGame RS-07 is a very similar device to the PAP-KIII Plus, and I was able to transfer over some of the work done by Gameblabla to work with my own menu. Much thanks, Gameblabla!

There are only a few more things I want to get the device to do, but have been unsuccessful with so far. These include the FM radio, MAME emulation, TV Out, screen dimming, and possibly more stand-alone games. I'll post any further progress I make.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tBx30PniBo

I've made some improvements, including adding back in the microphone and camera functionality, updating the font, and removing the dead links to the non-working PSX and MAME emus. Here is the new version 8.

VERSION 7:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IK0gvQh1RUE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JDAckKO2nk

I made a custom menu to address some issues that I had with the menus made by Jack83 and Level by Level Gaming. This was a project just for my own use, but I thought others here and elsewhere might want to take it for a spin. I think it looks good and works well, but I've never dabbled in anything like this before so I am pretty much at the limit of what I can accomplish.

Everything that works was built on the shoulders of what Jack and LBL did before me, so very much credit goes to the two of them.

MAME and PlayStation do not work. Anybody know how to get them working? [UPDATE: v9 below has a PSX emu!]

Here is the readme info:

EASY INSTALLATION
-----------------
1. Download .ZIP file.
2. Copy complete contents of .ZIP file to a blank microSD card.
3. Load up the microSD with roms, music, and pictures into the corresponding folders.
4. Insert microSD card into "TF card" slot on device.
5. Power on device.
6. Open file browser and navigate to "mnt/mmc/dmenu/installer" or "sd_card/dmenu/installer" or similar (depending on your file browser).
7. Execute "install.dge" file.
8. Device will reboot with new menu.
9. Enjoy!

NOTES:
------
- NO ROMS OR BIOS FILES ARE INCLUDED.
- Brightness permanently set to 18%.
- Default volume set to 45%.
- No TV-out or USB file transfer functionality.
- PlayStation and MAME are non-functional (please fix them if you can!)
- In some emulators, using the volume buttons will also change the game speed (this is easily solved by picking a volume that plays the game at the correct speed).

A copy of the "Bonk's Adventure" rom for PC Engine was accidentally included in the previous downloads. The links have been updated, and the downloads are now entirely rom- and BIOS-free. Apologies for the mistake.

EDIT: Versions 14 and newer have many public domain and homebrew roms included!

Thanks! You have done a great job!!! Hope to get mame working too!
I have one question to ask: why Amstrad emulator (and some others) doesn't show up in the menu?
Thank you again for your time and effort.

Thanks for saying so!

I removed Amstrad and a few other emulators that were a little buggy for me and that I had no interest in playing (again, this is primarily a menu for my own use). I basically started with a barebones menu and have been adding things back in as I needed/wanted them. It should be possible to get a few of the missing-but-working emulators back in there, so they may turn up in another version. Stay tuned.

That sounds like no fun at all. Can you provide more info? I assume this is after you installed the latest version (v11) of my menu? What were you doing just prior to the screen not working?

A friend bought the same unit and it should arrive today, so I will be able to test installing my latest menu on a fresh device instead of the one I've been using for development. So hopefully I can help you out if you tell me a little more.

One thought that comes to mind is that you may have somehow set the screen brightness to 0. That should not be possible with the menu options I provided, but would be possible if you had edited the "dmenu.ini" file in the "dmenu" folder. Specifically, line 11 of the .ini file reads "Bright = X" and the value of X should not be zero. That's all I could come up with off the top of my head, and I've confirmed that the .ini files in my releases do not have that value at 0.

If all else fails, you can download an image of the stock firmware, flash that to a microSD, and then take apart the device and install the microSD internally. That will take you back to square one, so you can rule out whether it is a software issue or a hardware issue. There are a few links to such an image file here in the forum.

It happened after update 11, but not right after it (some hours later).
When i get the battery out, it switches off, but when I put in on again the green light is on again and nothing happens no matter what keys I press.
When I charge it the red light turns on and the green light is still on.
I don't think it's a problem with the brightness because at least i would have been able to switch it on and off.
I opened the case, ejected the memory card and nothing also happened.
I haven't been able so far to find an image file of the internal firmware but i'll keep trying.
Thanks for your time and i'll be glad if you have any more thoughts to share...

I have not come across that problem personally.

The only problem I have now is that the built-in internal NeoGeo emulator (that my shortcut points to) stopped working mysteriously due to something my buddy did when he was playing it (right before he decided to buy his own, lol). I get a black screen with the green light on, and have to hard reset it. But then it boots back up to the menu. Still, it could be related.

There is a link to the original firmware that came on LBL Gaming's device in the description of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWCwVGW80Eo&list=PLeVMjrH60k674o6_rTeqNfGsCDjVf7RQ0&index=8

Not all stock firmwares are the same, so it might look different than yours used to, but it should restore the default functionality and run unless there is a hardware problem with your device. You can also try LBL Gaming's custom menu, which is basically the stock menu streamlined and improved. His menu has a pinned thread in the forum. Remember that both of these menus provided by LBL need to be flashed to the internal microSD card using an adapter, a PC, and a program like rufus (or similar). Then that SD card need to be installed in the internal slot on the PAP's motherboard.

What were you doing prior to it breaking? Did it have anything to do with NeoGeo, perhaps?

If you haven't done so already, you also might try simply wiping the external microSD card and copying my menu back over. If you do that, be sure to scour the "emulator" folder for save files before you wipe it, and copy them over into the right locations, or you will lose all your game progress.

The main problem is that there is no way to reset the machine. I have downloaded LBL's backup but if i put it in a SD card, how can i get PAP read it? It is stuck with the green light on...
I had the machine off all night and when I pushed the button to open it, it just did't do anything.

Do you know if there is a way to hardware reset it? Or if it is possible to get the memory out? Or something like that in case there is a hardware problem.

I'd think the only way to go would be to pull the battery, shut down the device, take it apart, remove the internal microSD from the motherboard, use rufus or similar to flash the stock firmware onto that microSD, reinstall inside the device, reassemble, and pop the battery back in. Default behavior is for the device to boot as soon as you put the battery in without waiting for you to press the button.

Do you know if there is a way to hardware reset it? Or if it is possible to get the memory out? Or something like that in case there is a hardware problem.

I'll refer you back to LBL Gaming's videos for more instructions on disassembly and flashing. He has a whole playlist, and there's a video in there showing the process.

That really sucks. It seems to me that you may have a hardware problem with your screen. Since you know how to open the device, check that the ribbon cable connecting the screen to the motherboard is intact and securely plugged in. If that doesn't do it, I think your screen is dead. I have only had my device for a month with pretty light use, so I can't vouch for the durability, but I do know that cheap electronics from China do often break...

I'm out of ideas, but I will let you know if I come up with anything.

If it was a screen problem, wouldn't the device be working properly but not showing anything? The problem is that the machine is stuck at that state with the green light on no matter what I do. Maybe a memory problem?
Thanks anyway!!

When the device is working properly, it will have the green light on and the screen displaying info, lol. So my thinking is that the device is turning on and running properly, but that you can't tell because the screen won't turn on. Does that make sense, or am I missing something? Are you seeing something other than a blank screen?

Yes, that's right.

If the power button is also unresponsive, then it might be a bigger problem than just the screen. You may or may not be onto something with it being a memory problem, but I don't really know anything about that. You may try searching the forum for similar problems and possible solutions. It sounds like the kind of problem that might creep up in different menus too, so don't restrict your search to just mine.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck.

I missed this when I read your post the first time, but does my menu actually work on the PAP Gameta II? I didn't realize that the devices were similar enough...wonder if that means it would work on the PAP-KIII (non plus) or the PAP-KIII S?

I tried to get PrBoom and Chocolate Doom going, but had no luck with either. In fact, the only stand-alone game I could get working is Quake II.

My best advice is to try and find a PlayStation ROM of DOOM and play it that way.

If you can link me to the files you have, I can try and incorporate them in a later version.

Glad you got it working. I think Playstation is the way to go.

What I meant was that I could try integrating the DOOM app file you have if you link me a copy. It probably won't work, but it may be a different version than the ones I tried already, so there's a chance.

I'm pretty sure I had Metal Gear Solid working at one point. Try adjusting the frame skip to 1 or 2 and turning off the frame limiter in the PCSX4ALL settings. If that doesn't do, maybe you need a different ROM. I'm having good luck with pbp format.

You also might need to add a BIOS file in, since I am not legally allowed to include one in the menu. The correct md5 checksum for the BIOS is "b9d9a0286c33dc6b7237bb13cd46fdee" You can verify the md5 using the program md5checker, which you can download here: http://getmd5checker.com/ (http://getmd5checker.com/) The file needs to be called scph1001.bin, but the only one that I had that matched the md5 checksum was called--I think---scph7502.bin, so I just renamed it to scph1001.bin. Then you need to copy the file to your sdcard, and go into the PCSX4ALL settings and change them to use the new BIOS. PlayStation games will then work a little bit faster and smoother.

Hello  Nick,

Thanks for your answer.
I wil try to get this bios file.
But I have found another strage thing.
In the Vectrex emulator when I try to open a file the list remains blank.
And I have put some roms in de H:\emulator\vectrex\roms and H:\ROMS\vectrex
The screen turns blue and the logo of the vectrex sits in the bottom right corner.
If this is not the case in yours, I think the gameta and the k3 are not fulle compatible

I did a little quick research here on the forum, and it seems like the roms should be in .vecx format, and that you can simply change the file extension from .bin to .vecx if your roms are in .bin format.

Also, the Vectrex roms were apparently released into the public domain for non-commercial use in the 90s. So, I think it should be fine for us to share them on the forum here, or even for me to include them with my free menu once I acquire them.

Hi again, Herman

Take a look at the dmenu.ini and theme.cfg files. You just need to follow the formatting/syntax that is in there, and you should be able to move things around how you like. Save a backup! It's easy to forget a single line or character and break it. Good luck, buddy.

Yo nickz,
i appreciate that you used my work (for the RS-07 and others) to make a CFW for the PAP K3 Plus so i don't have to
but it would be nice if you could comply with the licenses and release the source code somewhere.
Do you have a github account where you upload your stuff ?

Also, i would recommend that you put the latest version in your first post like i do to avoid people having to go through the pages

Yo nickz,
i appreciate that you used my work (for the RS-07 and others) to make a CFW for the PAP K3 Plus so i don't have to
but it would be nice if you could comply with the licenses and release the source code somewhere.
Do you have a github account where you upload your stuff ?

Also, i would recommend that you put the latest version in your first post like i do to avoid people having to go through the pages
and find the link to the CFW.

Hi Gameblabla.

I didn't realize these were licenses to comply with, because I'm a total amateur. But I certainly want to be in compliance with everything I should be. I don't have a github, so my whole release model has just been hosting these on my google drive account, and the .zip files I have linked in this thread are the entirety of my output.

There is no additional "source code" or anything like that, because all I have done was make changes to the existing dmenu and theme files, and drop in emulators from yours and LBLs menus without changing any of their code at all. I did not keep great track of all of my work outside of this thread, but I'm pretty sure the only ones of your emus I could get working were Quake 2 and Playstation and maybe Paradroid from your RS-07 build. I didn't have any luck with Quake, Doom, etc. because I guess the coding (that I don't know anything about) didn't line up with the PAP-KIII Plus hardware. Again, I'm a total amateur here. All I've really done is assemble parts and clean up the frontend with some better icons, fonts, and organization.

I think your suggestion for moving the newest version to the first post makes sense, and I'll do that.

Please let me know if there is something else I need to do to be in compliance. I thought this was all pretty open-source and free to make/share, and I don't want to be violating any guidelines or disrespecting the hard work that anybody has done.

Hi Im new here. I find this awesome! Just want to ask if MAME can be added to emulators. Thank you

So far I have not been able to find a version that I can just drop in and get working without problems, and I don't have the know-how to actually make a working MAME emulator myself.

I've just watched this video on YouTube, and it appears to show working artwork on Jack's dmenu. Does anyone know how to accomplish this? If so, I can probably incorporate the artwork into my own menu, and include some of the vast collection of artwork I have in a subsequent version.

I figured it out. All I have to do is make .png images with the same names as the rom files, and then add the following line to the emu script in the theme.cfg file:

Previews = "/mnt/mmc/..." (where ... is the rest of the directory where the images are stored)

So there WILL be artwork included in a future release of this menu, once I can get it all set up. Stay tuned!

Does USB access to the internal storage work?

My device has USB file transfer disabled at the factory, and I think this is true for all of the 16gb models. So I have no way to test if it will work with my menu, but I suspect not.

FM radio will never work without an FM chip.  The base of this firmware is an old russian emulator device from the early 2010-s which has fm radio inside, its called Ritmix RZX-50.  (I know becouse i had it for a while from ebay.)

That makes sense. I was never able to determine if the device has an FM chip, so I will take your word that it has none. I made no progress on the FM radio anyway :)

Hi, I've been reading the thread and this is probably a really stupid question, but is it possible to use the software in Nick's menu to play games from the internal memory?

 I can see how you can play the included homebrew games from the SD card (Babarian, etc) because they come up straight away, but not the ones that were there on the machine before.  Or are the only playable games the ones you can put on there through SD? Thanks.

The menu is set up to only use the ROMs on the SD card. You can play the ROMs on the internal card by rebooting without the SD card in, and then the device should boot up to the stock menu. Or you can try and use Dingux Commander to copy files from the internal memory to the SD card. It's doable, just a little tricky.

Ah great, thanks, that's really useful to know. How complicated is using the D.C. to do this - I mean, are there like specific buttons you can use to copy & paste files from one directory to another or is it a lot more complicated than that? Or maybe there's a tutorial on this somewhere? (Thanks a lot for your help anyway)

Fantastic work guys!

I tried a number of these handheld retro systems and wasn't happy with the hardware on any of them.
Last week I got the Gameta II Plus and although I thought the hardware/screen etc was great compared to the rest,
the inbuilt software sucked. Distorted sound. Locked down. Had to take it apart to access the internal card etc.
Terrible.
Then after about 3 hours of research and web searching - this time on the units specific name, I came across Nick's V15 menu.. Which led me to the latest V17.
Tried it this morning for first time and was blown away - a totally different machine now! Emulators are fantastic - much better performance and sound now - even just tried TV Out!

I look forward to the next version and am very interested in this customisation mentioned above with ZX Spectrum etc.
Great work guys - keep it up please!

I think I will now purchase a second of these units - very impressed with the GB Emulation and PC Engine now amongst others!

Regards
Mr P.

Thanks a bunch!

Thanks Nick ! I'm flattered that you credit me !
For the overclocking, my unit is set at 528mhz by d?faut.
I have read that the PAP K3 plus could work up to 640mhz but mine seems not to exceed 636...
Mid overclocking (582) is the middle of these 2 values of course.

I don't know... When I don't overclock the unit, it works at 528 mhz...

@Nick : the Atari ST emulator is not in the CFG file of your custom menu ?

In your readme.txt :

- ROM format for Super Nintendo, Famicom : ZIP, SMC, SFC
- ROM format for Amstrad CPC : DSK (in the "disk" directory)
- ROM format for MSX : MX1, MX2 (for MSX1 and MSX2 machines)

Atari 5200 emulator can run Atari 800XL games (ROM format : ATR)

Strange, mine runs at 576 Mhz default, and resents on each boot. For v19, I will remove the commentary (like "underclock" and "overclock") and just have the frequencies since there is no common "default" apparently.

It is possible to add a section to play the internal games...
I've tried this for example :

        SubMenuItem md_orig2
        {
            Icon = "../ipen/res/subIcons/md.png"
            Name = "Sega Genesis with internal games"
            Executable = "./md_emu.dge"
            WorkDir = "/boot/game/md"
            Selector = true
            SelectorDir = "/mnt/memory/game/md"
            VolumeControl = true
        }

The selector points to the folder with internal Genesis games in this case.
The only problem (only for me ?) : the PAP freezes after exiting the emulator...

That's useful info. Unfortunately, my device came with no internal ROMs, so I focused the menu on only using the SD card. I'll never need an internal games option, but it may be worth adding another section for those who do.

Ok!

Nick, can you (or someone else) share me a zip archive of your internal FBA/NeoGeo emulator (folder /boot/memory/fba) ?
Mine doesn't work anymore...
That's why I use FBA Capex which can run .fba files...

Thanks !

Interesting! My friend and I both had the same problem. I wonder what makes the internal FBA die like that. I don't have a copy from when mine was working, but here's a link to somebody else's backup: https://jutleys.wixsite.com/papk3plus/home/papk3plus-original-backup-image-download

Actually that whole site seems cool, and might have some more useful stuff.

Ok, thanks Nick.
I know this site (because i have a Bittboy too).
I will have to burn this image in a SD card and read this under Linux to recover the internal FBA emulator, I suppose ?

V18 is great well done!.

One Issue - an anyone offer me some advice - I have copied the internal Neo geo games *.fba (or ones I provide) to the v18 menu. I place them under arcade folder as just the .fba file.
The best Emulators - (cap com, neogeo) etc. doesn't see the file - on the readme it says supports .zip so I zipped the file up.
Now it sees the file but when I click to launch it nothing happens .. Can't work this out..

Anyone got it working? Thanks.

The arcade emulator can't launch .fba files.
The internal emulator can do this by the way.
.fba files are not the original roms. They are rom + cache (that's why they are bigger).
So, to use the arcade emulator, you must put the original zip files.
You can use FBA Capex too, which is in my archive (you will have to modify the CFG file of the custom menu. FBA Capex can run .fba files.

Thanks for this info - I follow. Maybe a silly question though but if the .fba are rom + cache files - I take it the .zip files wanted are just the rom without the cache therefore.
Is there a converter tool to remove the cache from the .fba?

Thanks.

I know FBACache to convert zipped neogeo roms to fba files, but I don't know the opposite...
By the way, zipped neogeo roms are easy to find ;)

I formatted FAT 32.  I copied all the files.  However after I hit to open the install the screen went black.   It boots to the native menu without the card in.  But when the card is in, it just boots to a black screen.  Can anyone help?

That's a strange problem that I have no encountered. I'd try re-doing it, starting with a full format. If that doesn't work, I'd suggest trying another SD card.

Hi!

I just had exactly the same problem here (menu not coming up at boot) but it seems to be SD card format related.

I use a Mac and noticed Finder said all done - files copied .. however the drive was still flashing wildly, flushing files still..

I waited a bit then ejected the disk and it worked second time around.

I also had some actual formatting issues to do with the fact I had had a linux Raspberry Pi filesystem on the card before..

Anyway all good and V19 up and running! Great work! Happy Holidays! I'm giving a system away as a present with V19 pre-installed!

An update for the included README File...

Under the ROM FORMATS section... I have tested this a lot and can confirm that under Atari 2600 where it says format is BIN... you can also add .ZIP to this as this works just fine here!

Edit: Same with Vectrex - also supports .ZIP!

Edit: Also, Atari 7800 also supports .ZIP format.

Edit:Been testing a lot today! Just to add Intellivision also supports .int files as well as .zip!

Edit: I have two working roms for the MSX system - these again are .ZIP files and work. The native format that also works is .BIN - I note the current readme has these as unknown.

Edit: The WonderSwan emulator is a bit flaky and doesn't have sound. I'd personally remove it. Anyway the default file format is .wsc (WonderSwan Colour).

Hopefully this helps the next update of the docs.

Great work!

Hey guys! Hope every one had a great Christmas and Happy New year!!! Here is a link to my continuing series on the super friends menu  https://youtu.be/j68YZTjAwSQ  I have some questions. In the arcade section of the best emulators how do you access the FBA menu and in SNES is there a way to set full screen as the default for all roms. I'm sure as I test more emulators I will have more questions. So, thanks in advance.

Happy new year !
For the full screen as default in the SNES emulator, it seems that it doesn't save this paramater. It's the same thing for the Bittboy...
FBA menu : L + R + start

Is there an emulator that can run MAME arcade games?  I'd like to play nba jam, MK3, etc.  I put those roms in the arcade rom folder but they wouldn't work.

The arcade emulator is FBA (Final Burn Alpha). The Mame roms don't work with this.

Quick question some may know the answer - does the PAP 3 support a plugged in USB keyboard at all?
I am thinking it would be very handy for the 8 bit micro emulations...

I have such a mini one here but need to find a suitable cable for it before I can try..

Anyone know?

I just tried mine with a USB keyboard, USB gamepad, and USB mouse, but none worked :(. My device is a 16gb model, though, and it seems to have USB file transfer disabled at the factory, too. So mine definitely seems to only allow charging over USB, but it is possible that one of the 4gb models that does allow data over USB might work. But probably not.

I don't think it's possible. This is not an OTG USB port...
Yes, with the 16Gb model you can't access to the memory with a USB cable.
I think it was possible with the first 4Gb versions.
Mine is also a 16Gb model.

Is it necessary to have the stock firmware on the internal card to begin with in order to make the supermenu work? I have the firmware based on the RS-07 loaded at the moment and the install function for the supermenu doesn't do anything.

I think yes.
The installer of the supermenu makes changes in the stock firmware in order to launch the menu.
Also, the PAPK3 boots up to the fimware stock before launching the supermenu.

It is not necessary, as long as the firmware on the internal SD card has a file explorer so that you can launch install.dge. I personally have LBLs menu on my internal card, and the Supermenu on the external card.

Thanks for your reply, I have explorer on the internal card, but when I run install.dge from the external card, the screen goes blank, then says loading, then says "tv-out connected, continue?" just like when the original firmware boots up and displays ordinary gmenu2x.

ZX Spectrum Emulator.

Anyone had any success getting this to work? Am I missing something? I put some files in there and it just jumps back to the main menu without launching.

Are ROM chip images required as well as program files?

What format does it support?

Help appreciated! I have a lot of .z80 files for example..

It works for me (but some games may no work).
No roms are required.
My games are in .z80 format too. I put them on /mnt/mmc/emulator/dingux-speccy/res/rom
In the emulator, press select then open file...

Strange indeed...

Here is Descent (d1xrebirth) for the PAPK3p :
https://drive.google.com/file/d/16DfuObDc5SNGpAU_FE9ZnoSDILz-QKhY/view?usp=sharing

In the standalone games section, you have to put this code :

Code: [Select]
SubMenuItem descent
        {
            Icon = "../ipen/res/subIcons/spaceship.png"
            Name = "Descent"
            Executable = "/mnt/mmc/emulator/d1x-rebirth/d1x-rebirth.dge"
            WorkDir = "/mnt/mmc/emulator/d1x-rebirth"
            Selector = false
            SelectorDir = "/mnt/mmc/emulator/d1x-rebirth"
            VolumeControl = true
            Center = true
        }

Controls can be changed in the game options.
Works fine.
No music but sounds work.

Hello ducdreamer,
No, I have a PAP K3 plus with 16Gb.

For the the Spectrum emulator, I don't use any additional bios.
I've put the games in /mnt/mmc/emulator/dingux-speccy/res/rom in .z80 format.

For The PC Engine emulator, I've also put the bios (syscard3.pce) in the root of the program.
I've put the CD games in the cd-roms subfolder.
For each game, I've created subfolders with cue+iso files.
For example :
cd-roms/gate of thuner/
 - Gate of thuner (J).cue
 - Track 02.iso
 - Track 18.iso
I don't put all the iso files because the cd musics don't work...
For the rest, it works fine.

Hello franckyrocky,

The Z80 files are indeed on the same dir as yours.
And the PC engine is setup the same way as yours
I think the Gameta is different from the K3
Not running these games

ducdreamer,

Sorry I forget to say then I slowed down to 528 and it s still working. Tried?

Is the correct romset in the right rom folder?

I added both z80 and tzx versions. ALmost sure tzx are useless... but I don t want to break the spell!

Hello Nick,
First thanks for Your great Custom Menu + additional apps. Works greats on my gameta 2.
I m still looking forward for a working MAME emulator on these consoles....
EDIT: I've checked all avaliable MAME emu verisons through execute function, but it seems they re all unstable...
Is it possible a further update?
Thanx again!

Hello,
slowing down to 528 no luck
My roms are in the z80 format and located in dingux-speccy\res\rom
Do you use a spectrum bios?
And if so here do you put it?
I hope to hear from you

Hello Ducdreamer,
...no, I don t use any bios. Before emu started working I ve just tried to "execute" another speccy emu distro
trying launching it via folder browser  ::) This just turned out in various console restarts.
And after some clock speed change the miracle happened!
I think the emu could open also without any rom game. The app starts with the classic Speccy blank screen and then you can choose to load a game or simply type basic...
Also consider I have a gameta 2 plus, not a K3.
Hope it helps... Keep trying! 8)

For PC-Engine CD, use PCmerge so you aren't fiddling with a billion files for each game and can just put them all in a single folder and be done with it.  Just FYI.

Despite of the small screen, these cheap consoles are light, no frills and for easy gaming!  :)

I tested several versions of Mame under OpenDingux, but I never managed to get it to work correctly (display problems, maybe because of the particular resolution - 480x272- of the PAP K3 ?)

Some display some garbled graphics but the most just returns to the menu screen.
I an thinking nobody has any knowledge to build A PAP specific version.

I recently bought a console for my nephew and I discovered it's a PAP-KIII Plus. I would like to install Nickz & Friendz Supermenu.
I was just wondering 2 things:
Thanks a lot in advance :)

Hello !
It's easy !
1. If you want to start on the stock menu, you just have to remove the microSD card.
2. If you want to update your Supermenu, you just have to erase your microSD card and copy the files of the new version on it (and put your roms). Before this, I recommend to make a backup of your card...

I made a patch for Spanish Language. You need to unzip it and copy it to the dmenu/themes folder of the external sd card.
But, if you can't set the language to Spanish you need to rename ipen_en folder to something like _ipen_en and ipen_es to ipen_en to work.

Here it's the Patch / Aqui esta el Parche: https://mega.nz/file/H98ywYIT#35VM7aVTC0tS9IXBE2ssJffOW9B6qpGFgVo9hm6iwoo (https://mega.nz/file/H98ywYIT#35VM7aVTC0tS9IXBE2ssJffOW9B6qpGFgVo9hm6iwoo)

Hello !

Another standalone game can be played on the PAP K3 !
It is Wizznic which is an implementation of the arcade-classic Puzznic, with an in-game editor.
http://wizznic.org/

If interested, I have also added the TI92 emulator, but I don't know how to run programs...

Download :
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HQEYPJe3tzZ3Aecf0yHbF_yKa5FgB6St/view?usp=sharing

Place the 2 folders in emulator directory and add new sections in the theme configuration file (theme.cfg)

More emus :

Code: [Select]
        SubMenuItem ti92
        {
            Icon = "../ipen/res/subIcons/gg.png"
            Name = "Texas TI 92"
            Executable = "/mnt/mmc/emulator/dingux-ti92/dingux-ti92"
            WorkDir = "/mnt/mmc/emulator/dingux-ti92"
            Selector = false
            SelectorDir = "/mnt/mmc/roms/dingux-ti92/"
            VolumeControl = true
            Center = true
        }

Standalone games :

Code: [Select]
        SubMenuItem wizznic
        {
            Icon = "../ipen/res/subIcons/bubbles.png"
            Name = "Wizznic"
            Executable = "/mnt/mmc/emulator/wizznic/wizznic.dge"
            WorkDir = "/mnt/mmc/emulator/wizznic"
            Selector = false
            SelectorDir = "/mnt/mmc/emulator/wizznic"
            VolumeControl = true
            Center = true
        }

Enjoy !

It depends on the emulators (and games...)
For example, on Handy (Atari Lynx emulator) you can swap A and B buttons on the config menu.

Any idea about the other emulators?

It seems there is a .cfg file for the nes (fceu320) emulator that contains controls, so they can be changed there (although I don't know what number is what button).

Maybe you should consult the official sites of the emulators (or the wikis) ?

Hi! This is not new, but i added to the menu and hope you like it. It's Cave Story from Pixel and NXEngine: https://www.cavestory.org/ (https://www.cavestory.org/)

I made the icon that you need to copy in dmenu/themes/ipen/res/subicons/ folder.
download here: https://mega.nz/file/Ox9VTDJJ#FQu-F_7GNocJ9U123X-R6thqEKHqUjG4wW-KDYHEdHQ (https://mega.nz/file/Ox9VTDJJ#FQu-F_7GNocJ9U123X-R6thqEKHqUjG4wW-KDYHEdHQ) or in the attached file.

Need to copy de NXEngine folder in emulator/
download here: https://mega.nz/file/qwkXnRDR#PK97h7ZOSVySM27Sp5o0wxE3WontmdK1h_ZHVh7Jsqs (https://mega.nz/file/qwkXnRDR#PK97h7ZOSVySM27Sp5o0wxE3WontmdK1h_ZHVh7Jsqs)

You need to add this code to the theme.cfg
Code: [Select]
SubMenuItem cavestory
        {
            Icon = "../ipen/res/subIcons/nxe.png"
            Name = "Cave Story"
            Executable = "/mnt/mmc/emulator/NXEngine/nx.dge"
            WorkDir = "/mnt/mmc/emulator/NXEngine"
            Selector = false
            SelectorDir = "/mnt/mmc/emulator/NXEngine"
            VolumeControl = true
            Center = false
        }

And done!
You can enjoy Cave Story in the Standalone Games Menu.

Hope You like it! ;)

Hello,
If your internal arcade emulator works (mine doesn't work anymore...), you can use it to open fba files.
You can try to add a section like this (in "Stock-Emus") :

Code: [Select]
        SubMenuItem arcade_orig2
        {
            Icon = "../ipen/res/subIcons/cps.png"
            Name = "Arcade (SD card games)"
            Executable = "./nxu.dge"
            WorkDir = "/boot/game/fba"
            Selector = true
            SelectorDir = "/mnt/mmc/roms/arcade"
            Previews = "/mnt/mmc/dmenu/boxart/arcade/"
            VolumeControl = true
        }

In this example, the menu runs the stock emulator (NXU) and opens the roms/arcade directory in the selector.
Copy your fba files in the folder roms/arcade.

Hello !

If interested, I have added 2 more applications in my PAP K3plus.
These are not games or emulators.
These are GMU Music Player, the well known MP3 player and Milkytracker, a tracker/MOD player (mod, s3m, xm, it...)

Download link :
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Wg9NyGnvbj1Fc7OUY7On1BbBJth7QDma/view?usp=sharing

1. Copy "gmu" and "milkytracker" folders in SD card \apps

2. In your theme.cfg file, add in music section :

Code: [Select]
  MenuItem gmu {
    Icon = "../ipen/res/mainface/allmusic.png"
    Name = "GMU Music Player"
    Executable = "/mnt/mmc/apps/gmu/gmu.dge"
    WorkDir = "/mnt/mmc/apps/gmu"
    Selector = true
    SelectorDir = "/mnt/mmc/music"
    VolumeControl = true
    Center = true
    }

  MenuItem milkytracker {
    Icon = "../ipen/res/mainface/allmusic.png"
    Name = "Milkytracker"
    Executable = "/mnt/mmc/apps/milkytracker/milkytracker.dge"
    WorkDir = "/mnt/mmc/apps/milkytracker"
    Selector = false
    SelectorDir = "/mnt/mmc/apps/milkytracker/songs"
    VolumeControl = true
    Center = true
    }

Title: Save games

Is there a way to create save games for the emulator to recognize for the Sega Master System emulator?
It keeps losing my in-game save for Phantasy Star I.

Hi,

Just updated to the Nickz and Friends menu. None of the stock neogeo games work on this arcade emulator :(  Also LBL's new 16gb menu does not allow for file transfer via connecting the device to a laptop/pc, so cant re-add any of the stock ROMs.. So bascially ive got a lemon at the moment.Does anyone know how to get the stock neogeo roms working on the jackz and friends menu, if not does any one know how to copy across files internally or even better resolve the issue of having the device not recognised by laptop/pc, treid all the lbl youtube fixes, Totally blocked from all angles, also trying to connect device while off and then powering on, still no luck.

Just found this and looks great!! so keen to test on papk3. Can I ask if the script copies over the internal storage or just points to SD card as boot? so if removed will boot as normal again and no chance of bricking device? Thanks!

Yes, no risk of bricking, if the SD card is removed, the device boots on the internal firmware

Hi folks,
Anyone know how scale up the screen for Amiga or Atari ST as the default is not making use of the full screen.

The main stream emulators are great with full screen.

Cheers,
A

Hello,
I think the affected emulators / homebrews are not compatible with the particular resolution (480x272 in full screen) of the PAP K3.
