Here is a minor update with some x-mas theming for the holidays. I plan to give one of these devices as a gift, and so I wanted to simplify things and give it some holiday flair.

Changes:
- There are now 43 standalone games, thanks to FranckyRocky. There were a few more that could have been included, but I removed a few that I thought were not up to the standard of the rest.
- "Best Emulators" has been whittled down to 11 systems.
- You can now play SegaCD/MegaCD ROMs in the normal Genesis/Mega Drive emulator, so I have removed the separate link for SegaCD/MegaCD
- Similarly, you can now play Famicom Disk System ROMs in the normal Nintendo/Famicom emulator, so I removed the FDS link
- You can now use ROMs that have the file extension capitalized or non-capitalized (e.g., *.pbp or *.PBP) without issue.

Enjoy, and happy holidays!

VERSION 18

DOWNLOAD: https://mega.nz/#!ZQQjxAII!7JZv1BDjX2c47aqfDM6YpCF5fY_uPTAha_sdgEEvzjs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55FpEFQwSXY

Thanks to Franckyrocky's hard work, we now have 21 more standalone games, 10 new emulators, and overclocking! Since this represents a substantial upgrade, it no longer felt right to call the menu simply "Nickz" and so I have updated the name. The menu will henceforth be known as "Nickz & Friendz SUPERMENU" to better acknowledge the hard work of contributors such as Franckrocky, as well as the ongoing support of LBL Gamer and GhostManNoob, and the borrowed elements from menus created by LBL Gamer, Jack83, Gameblabla, and others.

Changes:
- Added a "Standalone Games" section with the following games: Arkanoid, Boulder Dash, Duke Nukem 3D, Freedroid, Ganbare!, Great Giana Sisters, Giana Returns, Hexen, Jazz Jackrabbit, Mr. Driller, NOIZ2SA, Pang, Quake, Quake II, Rage of the Streets, Rise of the Triad, Shadow Warrior, Spear of Destiny, Super Tux, Sqrxz III, Tyrion, Vectoroids, and Wolfenstein 3D
- Nintendo/Famicom Disk System added to "Best Emulators"
- Sega CD/Mega-CD added to "Best Emulators"
- Atari 800, Atari ST, NEC PC-9801, Pokemon Mini, ScummVM, Sega VMU, Thomson TO7, TI-99/4A, Wonderswan, and ZX Spectrum added to "More Emulators"
- Quake II and Paradroid have been moved from "Best Emulators" to "Standalone Games"
- Paradroid renamed to "Freedroid"
- Sega Game Gear in "Best Emulators" now uses the Dingux SMS-SDL emulator
- Older Sega Game Gear emulator moved to "Backup Emulators"
- Overclocking options located in new "Processor Speed" section in "System Settings"
- Additional boxart and wallpapers added by Franckyrocky
- New icons for the new games/systems, and improvements to some existing icons

Essentially, this new version incorporates almost all of Franckyrocky's additions, but organized to better fit within the existing sections/theming of the old Nickz Menu v17. I did remove the FBA Capex emulator included by Franckyrocky (because it did not fit the screen well and seemed unnecessary given the other two arcade emulators), as well as the standalone games Beat 2X (the controls did not seem to work) and Flashback (which had badly distorted sound).

The next step will be to try and incorporate boxart and freeware/public domain ROMs for the new systems. I will also attempt to get more of the new standalone games and emulators to run in full screen. Those improvements will follow in an eventual future version.

Changes:

- Added approx 1,100 more boxart/gameplay images (there are now about 7,100 total).
- Added more wallpapers (there are now about 325 total).
- Resized some menu icons to have less space between them.
- Relocated wallpaper and boxart images to the "dmenu" folder in order to keep the "Pictures" folder clean.
- Further image file size minimization.
- Consolidated ROM location and filetype instructions into the main README text file.
- Removed some of the non-working PD/homebrew ROMs.
- Moved some PD/homebrew ROMs from GameBoy to ComeBoy Color, and vice versa.
- Changed the options in the "Pictures" Menu (the new options are: Use Camera, View Camera Photos, View Controller Layouts, View Wallpapers, & View Pictures Folder).
- The "View Controller Layouts" option points to a series of images that I made showing the controller layouts for the various systems, in case you or I need them on the go.

You can also view the controller layout diagrams here: https://imgur.com/a/yQoeo8D

Pictures: https://imgur.com/a/RXCA3fn

Changes:

-Box art/gameplay previews are now working!
-I have included as much artwork as possible for the included Public Domain/Homebrew ROMs, as well as images (mostly in combo coverart/logo/screenshot format) for over 6,000 games across all of the systems in the "Best Emulators" section.
-All of the pictures have been properly sized to work well on the screen, and have been optimized for minimum file sizes.

All you have to do is make sure the name of your ROM matches the name of the corresponding picture in the "/pictures/boxart/[system]" folder. You can rename the picture or the ROM, whichever you prefer.

- added confirmation to "power off"

More Info:

I don't know what happened, but the stock NeoGeo and Capcom emulators in my device stopped working. It just goes to a blank screen and I have to hard reset the device. I'm not sure if it's a defect in my menu or something else, but my menu code is basically identical to the others and just points to the internal emulator. Please let me know if anybody else has this problem. My best guess is that my friend--who was playing NeoGeo at the time--may have gotten into the emu settings and changed something that I now have no have no way to change back. Oh well.

Anyway, this lined up with a request here on the forum for a better NeoGeo emu, so I added in the one from Gameblabla's RS-07 menu. It works better than the stock one (for me anyway lol), so it has been placed in "Best Emulators" while the the stock one has been demoted.

I made a few changes to the menus. "Alternate Emulators" has been renamed "Backup Emulators" to further clarify that they are the non-preferred options. "Theme" and "System" have been changed to "Menu Settings" and "System Settings," respectively, to better clarify their functionality. Some icons have been cleaned up and/or replaced.

More importantly, I consolidated the menu items for NeoGeo and Capcom into a single "Arcade" option. Since both the new and stock emulators were doing both systems anyway (and should also emulate more than those), I decided it was easier to have one menu option.

It then seemed logical to have a single "arcade" folder in the "ROMS" folder, into which all games for that emulator could be dumped. You can create sub-folders for the various systems if you like, or mix the systems together in the same folder. You decide! The important thing to remember is that this new version (v12) no longer points to the "neogeo" or "cps1" or "cps2" folders on the SD card. Instead, it will point to the "arcade" folder.

The new emulator being used for arcade games is FinalBurn Alpha v0.2.96.86. I have had good luck with games in the romset for FBA v0.2.96.74 (including Neo Turf Masters!).

Changes:

- TV Out (outputs in 4:3 aspect ratio)
- Adjustable screen brightness (10% to 100% in 5% increments)
- Adjustable screen backlight timeout (only applies to menu)
- Moved menu-related options to "Theme" section
- Icon tweaks and other minor adjustments

Besides possible refinements, there is not much else I can do. I have been unable to find a MAME emulator that will work, and I lack the skills to make one myself. I think USB file transfer is disabled on the motherboard of the 16gb model (mine never worked, even with the default software), so I have no way to test whether it would work on a 4gb. FM radio will probably never work (all I have been able to do is load the settings).

Thanks for the support. Even though there was only slight interest so far, it motivated me to keep going at a much faster pace. Enjoy!

Changes:

-Moved PlayStation and Quake 2 to "Best Emulators"
-Added Atari 2600, Amstrad CPC, Intellivision, and MSX emulators in "More Emulators" (and sorted this menu alphabetically)
-More wallpapers added, and some icons improved

Here is version 9, with working PlayStation and Quake 2 Emulators!!!!

It turns out that the RetroGame RS-07 is a very similar device to the PAP-KIII Plus, and I was able to transfer over some of the work done by Gameblabla to work with my own menu. Much thanks, Gameblabla!

There are only a few more things I want to get the device to do, but have been unsuccessful with so far. These include the FM radio, MAME emulation, TV Out, screen dimming, and possibly more stand-alone games. I'll post any further progress I make.

I've made some improvements, including adding back in the microphone and camera functionality, updating the font, and removing the dead links to the non-working PSX and MAME emus. Here is the new version 8.

I made a custom menu to address some issues that I had with the menus made by Jack83 and Level by Level Gaming. This was a project just for my own use, but I thought others here and elsewhere might want to take it for a spin. I think it looks good and works well, but I've never dabbled in anything like this before so I am pretty much at the limit of what I can accomplish.

Everything that works was built on the shoulders of what Jack and LBL did before me, so very much credit goes to the two of them.

MAME and PlayStation do not work. Anybody know how to get them working? [UPDATE: v9 below has a PSX emu!]

Here is the readme info:

EASY INSTALLATION
-----------------
1. Download .ZIP file.
2. Copy complete contents of .ZIP file to a blank microSD card.
3. Load up the microSD with roms, music, and pictures into the corresponding folders.
4. Insert microSD card into "TF card" slot on device.
5. Power on device.
6. Open file browser and navigate to "mnt/mmc/dmenu/installer" or "sd_card/dmenu/installer" or similar (depending on your file browser).
7. Execute "install.dge" file.
8. Device will reboot with new menu.
9. Enjoy!

NOTES:
------
- NO ROMS OR BIOS FILES ARE INCLUDED.
- Brightness permanently set to 18%.
- Default volume set to 45%.
- No TV-out or USB file transfer functionality.
- PlayStation and MAME are non-functional (please fix them if you can!)
- In some emulators, using the volume buttons will also change the game speed (this is easily solved by picking a volume that plays the game at the correct speed).

A copy of the "Bonk's Adventure" rom for PC Engine was accidentally included in the previous downloads. The links have been updated, and the downloads are now entirely rom- and BIOS-free. Apologies for the mistake.

EDIT: Versions 14 and newer have many public domain and homebrew roms included!

Thanks! You have done a great job!!! Hope to get mame working too!
I have one question to ask: why Amstrad emulator (and some others) doesn't show up in the menu?
Thank you again for your time and effort.

Thanks for saying so!

I removed Amstrad and a few other emulators that were a little buggy for me and that I had no interest in playing (again, this is primarily a menu for my own use). I basically started with a barebones menu and have been adding things back in as I needed/wanted them. It should be possible to get a few of the missing-but-working emulators back in there, so they may turn up in another version. Stay tuned.

That sounds like no fun at all. Can you provide more info? I assume this is after you installed the latest version (v11) of my menu? What were you doing just prior to the screen not working?

A friend bought the same unit and it should arrive today, so I will be able to test installing my latest menu on a fresh device instead of the one I've been using for development. So hopefully I can help you out if you tell me a little more.

One thought that comes to mind is that you may have somehow set the screen brightness to 0. That should not be possible with the menu options I provided, but would be possible if you had edited the "dmenu.ini" file in the "dmenu" folder. Specifically, line 11 of the .ini file reads "Bright = X" and the value of X should not be zero. That's all I could come up with off the top of my head, and I've confirmed that the .ini files in my releases do not have that value at 0.

If all else fails, you can download an image of the stock firmware, flash that to a microSD, and then take apart the device and install the microSD internally. That will take you back to square one, so you can rule out whether it is a software issue or a hardware issue. There are a few links to such an image file here in the forum.

It happened after update 11, but not right after it (some hours later).
When i get the battery out, it switches off, but when I put in on again the green light is on again and nothing happens no matter what keys I press.
When I charge it the red light turns on and the green light is still on.
I don't think it's a problem with the brightness because at least i would have been able to switch it on and off.
I opened the case, ejected the memory card and nothing also happened.
I haven't been able so far to find an image file of the internal firmware but i'll keep trying.
Thanks for your time and i'll be glad if you have any more thoughts to share...

I have not come across that problem personally.

The only problem I have now is that the built-in internal NeoGeo emulator (that my shortcut points to) stopped working mysteriously due to something my buddy did when he was playing it (right before he decided to buy his own, lol). I get a black screen with the green light on, and have to hard reset it. But then it boots back up to the menu. Still, it could be related.

There is a link to the original firmware that came on LBL Gaming's device in the description of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWCwVGW80Eo&list=PLeVMjrH60k674o6_rTeqNfGsCDjVf7RQ0&index=8

Not all stock firmwares are the same, so it might look different than yours used to, but it should restore the default functionality and run unless there is a hardware problem with your device. You can also try LBL Gaming's custom menu, which is basically the stock menu streamlined and improved. His menu has a pinned thread in the forum. Remember that both of these menus provided by LBL need to be flashed to the internal microSD card using an adapter, a PC, and a program like rufus (or similar). Then that SD card need to be installed in the internal slot on the PAP's motherboard.
