LDK and RS-97 (RetroFW): Game&Watch games
« on: July 03, 2019, 05:22:50 pm »
Hi people,

This is my first post.

I am loving my LDK with the latest Comicbook RetroFW firmware.
As a friend bought himself one of those really old Game&Watch handhelds of the 80's, I thought it a good idea to see if I can play this on the LDK. And I can!

....however, there is no dedicated emulator on RetroFW. I browsed and Retropie has one called "lr-gw".
But I was able to play some ports through the Gameboy and Gameboy colour emulator.
See videos below:

My question is: Is it possible to get a dedicated Game&Watch emulator for RetroFW? That would be so awesome. The LDK really is very suited for it with its petite form factor.

Thanks for listening! Have a great day!

Chris

I bought a RG300 just to play Game&Watch games. Now using Gameboy emulator too.

A dedicated Game&Watch emulator would be so much better and have more games.
I am thinking of buying the RG-350 and I hope since that one will get a lot of community support that perhaps someone feels brave to develop one. Fingers crossed!

I guess you could expect a port of madrigal's simulators.
The source code is available and has been ported to psp, Xbox, Famicom mini and so on. It should run well on those limited devices. A port for gcw zero could be great also.

It has been ported through Retroarch on all of those. The license of Madrigal's forbids :
- Derivative works (so i can't port it)
- Making available older versions (requiring said porter to keep up with releases)
And more bullshit.

Hiban has released QuarterSnatch for the LDK/RS-97, which is a G&W game with some enhancements.
If you really want to play the other games, the G&W Gallery games (including the GBA sequel) are a decent way of playing those.
