Does it boot to USB mode if you press one of the keys (A or B) like the RetroMini?

Yes, turn off device and connect via usb then just turn on and it will connect and mount the main storage and the sd card.
Also using select button while powering on it is recognised the same as the retro mini (odbootd) using driver libwdi 6.1.7600.16385

Got mine today, thanks for mentioning it in the first place.

It's an excellent form factor, and the gba and nes emulation is good although the screen refresh is a little slow. Main issue I'm finding (although I've only played with it for ten minutes) is that the buttons and dpad don't raise much out the body. On top of this, the plastic around the buttons is recessed, so it's difficult to press a and b at the same time, for instance. I would much prefer it with different, more raised buttons, but it's still got a lovely form factor and seems to play snes, gba, nes, mgeadrive and cps1 out of the box.

Yeah - I'm hoping for pixel perfect/unscaled SNES, something not possible on the RetroMini.

Interesting, but not a problem unless you lose the cartridge somehow, I'd assume.

Yes, I've just retested and it looks like I got that wrong. It was just after I rebuilt it and I must have mis-set the video lead, then jogged it as I plugged in the cartridge or something? Sorry, thanks for correcting.

I also just retried it with the RS97 cartridge, and that seems to work and load the SD card. Also, you can insert, remove and swap cartiridges while the machine is on - it seems to mount them when you go in to the SD card menu. I havent tried it while in a game, however - I presume its still loading the rom from disk.

g100 is not the first SP clone device with JZ4725B

there was a A025

https://blog.naver.com/drangra/221107445013
sorry it's written in Korean
2016 version with JZ4725B with no SD card slot (if you zoom the photo, clearly can see it's JZ4725B)

https://gbatemp.net/threads/gba-clone-help-usb-pinout.368637/
2013 version

btw why some of GBA files like GTA wont work on this device?

Nice find!

Not sure about the compatibility issue - I'd imagine it's just because it's not a very good emulator!

It also can't handle PocketNES, and either crashes out of or has serious errors on quite a few NES roms directly. On either castlevania 1 or 3 for example you appear to be invincible, and kid dracula crashes out.

Also A and B on the nes are swapped around, which threw me for a bit. And finally, it has some weird screen refresh for the nes where I think it might be doing every other frame, as when you get hit and your sprite would normally flash, you turn invisible.

Despite this, it is a really nice device!

I've seem some people that changed the case to a original GBA SP case, it's so cool, I would love a CFW for this console

I just recently picked up one of these!  I was wondering if there were any updates/progress on a possible G100 Opendingux port?

In theory it is hackable, but I can't figure out how to make the LCD work, so unless I get help with that it won't happen.

There seems to be some progress in that area further down the topic.

PSA: THIS DEVICE DOES NOT CURRENTLY RUN FREE SOFTWARE
IT MAY NEVER
DON'T BUY IT YET

I pulled the lcd out and managed to drive it with cut-and-paste arduino code (MIT), see thread here: https://boards.dingoonity.org/other-game-systems/rs90-in-a-gba-sp-shell/ .

The device is currently waiting on somebody with kernel skills to make the required modifications to the RS90 kernel. I set up a build machine VM to play with, but I'm not sure I'll be able to do much productive with it. I got some new parts in the mail yesterday and got distracted by a hardware modding project, since that's a little more in my wheelhouse. Details on that soon.

Interested parties who wish to contribute technically should check out

- zcrc.me
- #opendingux on Freenode
- "JZ4725B_ds.pdf" , "JZ4725B_pm.pdf" , available for download on the internet

I plan to check back in on the G100 in a few weeks. If there's no new developments by then I'll try to build some ham-fisted kernels of my own. I am willing to run breadboard experiments at any time, as I've kept my setup together.
