Oil for buttons

Hey, maybe it's a freaky question but when I play some games I put my finger between two buttons or I maintain one button pressed while I press the other...etc. The issue is that the buttons of the GPD win 2 are hard to press in this manner because they don't slide/slip. Is there a kind of oil for plastic? I remeber when I was a child that some toys contained a liquid between plastic peaces with relative movement...

Yeah, your question is a little bit...strange, for that I wouldn't think can be used on electronic products special keyboard or D-pad, many player have same problem but they get better since they touch D-pad more and more.

It sounds like you just want some silicone grease, a tiny amount on the tip of a needle applied to the opening of the buttons.
I did this with my GCW Zero buttons way back to help with the stiff buttons.

NO! THIS IS NOT OKAY! THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT! GPD NEEDS TO FIX IT! THE OP IS RIGHT!

I changed the GPD Win 2 buttons in place of my GPD Win 1 buttons an the issue is GONE! The buttons play much better! The OP is RIGHT! This issue is not something we should tolerate when we spend $700-800 for this thing!

I have been through 2 units now and I refuse to buy a THIRD unless GPD installed my old GPD Win buttons and silcon in the repaired GPD Win 2 I am sending them... OR FIXES IT ON ALL NEW MODELS!


It is pathetic that my JXD S7800B / Nvidia Shield / GPD XD / GPD Win / DINGOO A320 / RS-97 can play Contra/Mario games wayyyy better with their controls!

I tried many oils and non-toxic kinds too... The oil did not last... I used my arcade trackball oil too... It just did not last over time... Also not wise to put that inside the unit... The only solution is changing out the GPD Win 2 taller buttons in exchange for the GPD Win 1 ABXY buttons...

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS! DOING THIS MEANS REMOVING ALL THE PCBS AND ALL PARTS OF THE DEVICE...

Sadly, the GPD Win 2's screw mounts and sockets will break as they are cheap plastic if you do this... SADLY... The entire device will not be able to be reassembled due to the shell's screw sockets and lock/rings breaking off... They used super cheap plastic man.

I am sending my unit in for repair, as my unit was ATTEMPTED to be fixed by last owner and it is a mess now... If GPD will not replace the GPD Win 2 buttons with my backup spare parts GPD Win 1 ABXY buttons, I am done... I am not buying another Win 2... I have had enough.

This DPAD issue and the non-working HDMI killed the GCW Zero man... Such a waste.

I haven?t posted before because some of the problem reports were getting a bit hysterical, but I?m having the same issue with the face buttons. The Win 2 is an otherwise excellent device, but resistance isn?t even across the button surface; you have to press harder as you get closer to the edge. If you try pressing *right* on the edge (which you might do if you were holding down another button), then it might feel ?stuck?. If you press hard enough, it does move but makes a sort of plastic-on-plastic crunching sound which isn?t nice.

I haven?t taken it apart, but I think the problem is to do with friction between the button support pins and the case. Because buttons don?t stay flat when pressed anywhere but centrally, the tilt sort of pushes the pins against the guide channels and makes them harder to activate. I think, anyway.

So that all said, I?m looking for a fix if possible! Has anyone looked at this? I?m not all that keen to disassemble, but I?d take the risk for a set of perfect buttons.

Did anyone have any success with the silicone grease idea?

I replaced my unit with GPD XD 1 buttons, problem solved. I also replaced my silicone membranes for the DPAD and buttons too. In fact I removed the springs from the trigger buttons + switched out the dpad with a 3DS dpad. It took all of those mods to make this a good controlling device. Pathetic eh? GPD Win 1/XD design was worlds better with controls man.

Yeah! I don't think it's a weird issue though, it's just hard to describe. I haven't taken the shell off yet, so I'm not sure if it's a design problem or a material problem, but there's just too much lateral tilt on the buttons, which causes friction on the little support legs that this type of button have.

I've actually experimented with some tape and discovered that if you can pull a button over a bit towards the side with the legs, it doesn't tilt as much when you press on the opposite edge and the problem goes away.

The tape isn't exactly a permanent solution though, but it's a start. GPD have mostly done an outstanding job with the Win 2, but this sort of thing is a real problem on this kind of device. It's kind of annoying that there isn't a replacement part or a recommendation from GPD to improve this, but there you go.

I'm not sure if this is something that a lot of people care about, but since I'm not going to have a lot of time in the next few weeks to disassemble the Win 2 and play around with solutions, I decided to try the silicone grease idea.

I just put a few pin-head drops around the button edges and worked it into the recesses using a plastic drinking straw (split lengthways, obvs).

And... it seems to work quite well actually! It still feels a bit "off" when you press at the button edge, but the friction never gets bad enough for a button to stick or for the plastic crunching sound to happen. Not an entirely perfect solution, but I think it'll be good enough for 99% of people.

Silicone grease for crunchy buttons. Thumbs up.

Change to the XD face buttons and use a 3DS Dpad + Nintendo dpad/buttons membranes... Feels great. Problem solved.

I've used silicone grease in my GCW Zero for years. It works really well.

I have a red silicone grease for the chain of the bicycle. I think that it's the same. I'll try it.  :P
