I guess GPD has switched over the the Z8750?
« on: February 10, 2017, 11:08:49 pm »
Seen two people so far who received revised models today and both had the Z8750, one was on the discord channel and contacted GPD and was told they are using Z8750's now and in the future batches.
At least one had the Samsung eMMC drive used in the original models instead of the Toshiba drive that's been used in all the revised units so far so presumably they all are now as well.
Caught me by surprise, did anyone know about this?
I guess now hopefully we'll be able to get more comparisons between the Z8700 and Z8750 at this point with identical heatsinks.

Hmm, that would be weird. They made a big hype of the new device, mentioned improved controls, a better shell... and then they forgot to tell they're using the Z7850?

I'll check that when I'm in my office, I've got the revised version in my shop.
I'm evil.

It seems strange that no one noticed until now if all the revised units had the Z8750 so I'm wondering if this was a more recent on the fly change.
The weird thing definitely is that there seems to be nothing anywhere about this even on the Baidu, you'd think there'd be an announcement somewhere about this or something.
That is a relatively big change all things considered compared to some other revisions made and I'd expect some overly hyped up notice about it somewhere.

Now they're selling the GPD Win like they promised it would be when I bought it. I've asked them many times if it was going to be the Z8750 and everytime they answered me that it was going to be the Z8750. I didn't get the Z8750 as they promised and ended up with a Z8700.

I won't recommend them to anyone any more and now I also don't have to make a review on their site because of the hardware changes.hat's the point of making reviews if the hardware changes with every batch?  ???

To be fair, the 8750 is barely an improvement over the 8700.

The information on their website has not be updated yet,i didnt even know that they were putting 8750 in the gpd again,I just wanted the revised version. You could always open a ticket to send it back and get the new one but honestly you will not see much diffrence if at all.better keep the one you have.the 8700 and 8750 is almost identical in practice no benefits from having the 8750 over the 8700.

Likely is not an answer.
When they first announced the 8750 they supposedly said there were issues from Intel that's why they switched to the 8700.
I haven't kept up for a while, some members posted the 8700 actually outperforming the 8750 in some games .
So that's why I was wondering if whatever issue they had was fixed.

I remember The Phawx saying somewhere that the GPDWin with the z8750 he has is probably defective. There are other videos from chinesse buyers with the z8750 model that run a lot better than his.

I have an original z8750 and it's always worked fine.

If you ask me, the z8750 never had any issues. What probably happened was the review units were z8700s and due to their small number, they were probably all functional. Then when they did the first public batch with z8750s, they had the graphic driver crashing issue. In a hasteful attempt to fix the issue, they blamed the z8750 and swapped the z8700s back in.
Eventually, GPD realized they were still having the issues with the z8700s and silently tried to source the actual cause of the problem. Once they found the issue they publicized it and then proceeded to revise the GPD and gave it the z8750 back after using up any stock of the old one.

Of course this is simply speculation on my part, but it would explain a lot.
