How to ship defective GPDWIN back to Geekbuying
« on: March 04, 2017, 10:19:38 am »
Geekbuying wants me to ship back just the unit itself (without the box or accessories) and use regular airmail or something through USPS. I've never had to ship anything out before so I'm clueless in the process of shipping something out (internationally).

What box or package do I use?
Which shipping method do I use?
How much will this cost?
Do I need to fill out forms?
Will the lithium-ion battery in the GPDWIN cause any issues with shipping with policies concerning shipping electronics and batteries?
Should I get tracking and insurance if they're available?

When I shipped mine, it was directly back to GPD's Oregon return office.

I would recommend asking the post office those questions, but I'll take a shot:
Any plain box should work. USPS sells some flat-rate boxes too... though I don't think any of those are international.
You'll have to ask USPS.
You'll have to ask USPS.
You'll have to ask USPS.
It shouldn't, they'll just ask if you have it has batteries, and you say yes, in the device.
Yes, you should get tracking, and insurance if you think it's worth it.

I'be been thinking about shipping mine back via UPS directly but I'm to nervous about the dam thing getting held up in customs or being lost for a month.

Holy wall of text batman:

I shipped mine USPS Priority Mail International Small Flat Rate Box. I filled out the customs form on the USPS web site then printed it out and took it to the post office. I bubble wrapped the hell out of the GPD WIN. Packaged it as geekbuying requested with the return form. I did pay for the expedited shipping with tracking. I mailed mine on the 5th of January from the east coast. I sent customer support the tracking info. A delivery was attempted on the 16th of January. I knew that things would be slow down for Chinese New Year. I received an email from GeekBuying on the 13th of February that they had my defective unit and would be sending out the replacement. It shipped out on the 17th of Feb, and I received the replacement unit on the 2nd of March. My replacement unit was a complete, brand new unit (with a valid Win10 key) with the updated shell and buttons. I have had zero issues with my replacement unit. Hope this helps.
