how on Earth do I get the controls working with quake 4??
« on: November 11, 2016, 12:05:17 pm »
So I put quake 4 on it two hours ago, runs perfect on ultra. But. How. Do. I get. The . Controller. To Work?

Keyboard mode is unusable for this game especially since using the dpad or keyboard means mouse clicks won;'t be picked up at same time (so no move and shoot). I bought xpadder just now. This app hos the most horrific interface ever.

I somehow found out that it picks up the controller. I even got a profile in for quake 4 on x360 controller.

But it just doesn't work in game. Only on desktop.

How on EARTH do I get xpadder to make it so that I Can play quake 4 in xinput mode? What do I have to do??

I am not a shooter guy, but maybe you can try with antimicro. It's just like xpadder but free.

You sure it's not one of those awkward games where you need to keep it in Dinput or Xinput and plug a USB mouse in to configure it right?

Some games detect controllers in game automatically, some games need you to have the controller "plugged in" before launching.
Some games will reject all controller input if you "disconnect the controller" even once to switch to mouse input.
Some you just have to edit them into the ini/cfg file.

got it too work! One has to make profile for controller, then save as it, and restart xpadder in admin mode for it to work.

Only problem now: aiming is impossible almost because game not made for joystick. but it works fine.

is there some way to make quake 4 run natively with the controller for good aiming?

@RetroVortex  you are correct, but I have NO idea what a proper config file would look like to make quake 4 work iwth x360 controller with smooth aiming, and the entire internet recommends something like xpadder instead

You may have to play with the ingame aim sensitivities if there is any.
If you are using xpadder to emulate mouse aim, then you'd need to tweak the mouse aim sensitivities

Edit: maybe this might help

In particular that m_accel value. Or mouse acceleration value in other words.

The only other thing I can think about is if there some settings in xpadder you can adjust for mouse sensitivity.
Or maybe I increase the dead zones a little?
I'm not really sure in honesty.

so i put m_accel to 1 and that did it, plus getting used to it. i have powered trtough the first few levels and am almost where the big spaceship hannibal lands. it runs and plays great on the win!
