Gpd Win1 Cooling Mod
« on: April 24, 2019, 03:10:58 am »
I thought I would post something cool since I was new to the forum. I posted about this a while back on reddit but it never gained traction or no one seemed much interested but I took the normal copper shim mod and took it a little further. I took a 1x9x80mm heat pipe and epoxied it to the heatsink and cut little copper fins which i epoxied to the heatsink as well. I also opened up a hole on the back of the case just above the fan that I covered with a piece of metalic mesh to help increase airflow. This is my V1 to this project and I am currently in the process of trying to get a whole new heatsink CNC'd with the fins cut directly into the piece of copper although I don't expect that to move too quickly its fun and keeps my mind occupied. Hope others find this as cool as I have. https://imgur.com/gallery/JNF0tr9

Those look neat! Exactly what I had in mind for the grills/ventilation.

But I simply don't have the tools (and skills) to do it.

Not sure about the heatpipe though. Does it works?

I never open mine, just up to the bottom shell, never went further than that.

The whole setup works reasonably well I don't have to turn the fan above medium usually. Most of the time I don't even run the fan and it stays cool while I am playing low draw 2d games. It's much more comfortable to hold after all the improvements.

Hi there! Nice mod by the way.

Did you ever made the V2 mod that you wanted to make? This mod inspired me to try something with a printed 3d case.
