GPD Win shuts down - Fan issue?
« on: October 31, 2016, 03:05:00 pm »
When the GPD Win suddenly shuts down, is this due to the fan being set too slow and the system overheating? Is there any suggestion when I can switch off the fan when to put it on medium and when to put it on high?

The problem is that this often happens while playing a game even though the battery is charged and the fan set to high. Any idea?

whats your temps?
use rivatuner and/or hwmonitor to check.
Mine goes up to 80?C without shutting off.

Started WoW and it had around 78?C before it crashed. Any chance to check from what it crashed if it was the drivers or the heat? I must say I am pretty disappointed with the device so far. As soon as I start something which needs more CPU or GPU that damn thing crashes. I haven't bought it to idle in Windows.

These are super hot temperatures without touching anything in the BIOS.

Maybe they are just defective units, because it doesn't sound normal at all. If after a clean install/new drivers system crash or just shutdown sounds like a defective hardware, because it's not normal that some people have no issues and other these serious ones.

So far i haven't installed anything new on my device. It is the standard set it came with. I will send it back this week because the screen is not properly attached to the top part of the case. Fingers crossed I get a better working device

How can I figure out if it is the heat of the drivers. Tried Trine 2 this morning had around 70 degree and it would shut down again.

drivers wouldn't cause your device to turn off.
Also go into your system settings/advanced system setting/startup and recovery settings
Turn off automatically restart on system failure.

I would not change any thermal/throttling settings in the bios to prevent overheating.
if your device gets too hot and doesn't shut off or throttle it might cause damage on the SOC.
