GPD Win - Questions
« on: April 28, 2017, 06:05:59 pm »
Purchased the GPD Win (From a second hand computer store) for ?250 in "as new" condition.  Very happy with it.

A few questions.

This is the matte version (Same color underside and on top as well) with the 3 lines of text below as well as a Samsung EMMC.   (Has the z8700 SOC).  Am I right that this is definitely the January update version?   Does this also have improvements in stability as in better thermal? (So far no issues).  I noticed that the intel hd settings have extra power settings set to "on" but there is still no stability issues.

The original came with a steam shortcut on the desktop.  There were issues with wifi, however I reinstalled Windows 10 home via the ISO with the inbuilt drivers and all works well now.   The bios is the newer version which barely gives any additional options.   Is there much advantage in downgrading it to the previous one?

Has anyone had any luck with 50hz on the device? (Some of my laptops with the intel HD allow setting custom refresh, but this one gives the "bandwidth exceeded" error

There were some horror stories in regards to the keyboard on some models malfunctioning when the device is stressed with some irreversible damage (or fixing itself at some random point).   Has anyone else had any issues with this on the newer January update version or above?

Overall pretty impressed with this device.  I guess allowing lower resolutions does not look as bad as it would on a larger screen and Dolphin and PPSSPP run near immaculate on some games.

The additional bios options are only needed to tweak settings for issues. If you don't have any, you're OK.

Try reversing the Horizontal and Vertical resolution values when making a custom resolution.

Indeed, wont fix what is not broken. runs fine as it is.

I have previously also tried reversing the x/y (as the gpd win is natively in portrait) as well but the 50hz to no avail unfortunately
