I think because it means they'll have to install another USB card, as they are mounted on top of the PCI Express ports. That will make production more expensive.

While I understand the discomfort, you can buy an adapter from USB Type C to USB A quite cheaply. Unless you have a receiver or an always-plugged-in flash drive, it shouldn't make things too uncomfortable. Remember, you have 64GB+SD card of memory to spare.

Also, still not buying it. The keyboard is a huge deal to me, and unless I can see some proof it won't be completely FUBAR I can't take the risk.

no, they will not install another sdcard.
simply they want to reduce component size.

and please, an adaptor for pluging a pendrive is, for large, SO UNCOMFORTABLE. is not the solution

USB Type-A allow to use a nano-pendrive and use it on the go. THIS IS the best part.
or even, plug any kind of USB device on it, WITHOUT the adaptor.

no. the best choice is keep the USB Type-A and replace the current MicroUSB by USB Type-C

We changed the planned USB type-A to USB type-C.And reasons blow:

1.Maximum data transfer rate can up to 10Gbit/s,that is the USB 3.1 standard.

2.The thin design for Type - C's end socket size,about 8.3 mmx2.5 mm.

3.The both side can insert.it can repeated thrust 10000 times.

4.The Type-C's standard specifications cables can by 3A current, also support the USB PD, can provide the maximum power of 100W.

1. What use is this speed this when most the large ROM files are going to be transferred over on to microSDs? Not worth the trade off, why not just make it a USB 3 slot?

2. Rubbish reason, if the standard port fit why do you need to make it smaller, this isn't an advantage unless you are going to make the device itself thinner

3. USB-C's double sided insert thing always seems kinda silly, turning a USB takes about a second. Not really sure what "it can repeated thrust 10000 times." means entirely but slots from my dads 10 year old computers seem to work fine still, how hard do people try and push their USB's in?

4. What are people planning to power on a portable device like this? external HDDs? The battery drain on stuff that is gonna use that sorta power aint helpful to a battery powered, portable device. Worst reason of them all.

Why? Oh why GPD! I know they won't listen...

Edit: Well they listened, isn't that interesting!

Turn off your Android games console when you are finished with it!

I didn't say they'll install another SD port.
Again, removing ANY port is against the consumer, but if they have to choose between Type C and Type A to keep costs down, Type C is the obvious choice.

I would also love to have a 7.1 audio card there, SPDIF-audio out, and an Ethernet port. Those things aren't going to happen, even though some people only have wired connections or surround-sound speakers.

I agree to some extent but I also can't justify having to pay an additional cost in order to use readily available peripherals of today. From a brief google search, a quality Type C to full Type A dongle sells upwards from $12.99 plus shipping. Just don't like losing the port convenience in a product that will receive a hardware update in late 2017 anyways when/if Type C devices will be more prevalent. :P

Kendy, we as human beings are NOT at the point where we can replace USB Type A with Type C in our day to day usage. Future proofing this is cool and all, and we all want Type C on this device, but not at the loss of Type A.
Micro USB is the port that we did NOT want, so please replace that with C and keep A for all of us to use.
This, together with the insanely high price, out-of-production SoC, and HORRIBLE keyboard layout (also very bad key cap design; your current cap design will make it even harder to type), makes me want to skip this device entirely and wait for a Win 2. Or maybe a gaming UMPC from another company if one were to give the idea a try as well if it seems popular enough.
Still, I wish you success with this incredibly niche device if only because I want to see a second generation where you'll finally listen to the community and fix all the massive problems with the first generation.

Kendy, PLEASE keep the Type A USB.  Type A is the most common and very important.

Maybe stupid question, but without microusb, how do you charge it??? You couldn't use all your chargers you have now! BADDDDD idea! (even if they give you one for the device, the only thing the charger with my XD ever produced was a giant spark/mini-fireball from it's horribly bended-out-of-the-box contact pins...)

I agree, rather usb A then C tough... =)

you can use any standard USB port for charging, using the right cable:

In view of the fact that many people opposed to change USB Type-A to USB Type-C, So we decided to still use the USB Type-A interface.I have deleted the yesterday's update. I am so sorry for the repeated change!!

Good news, but Kendy, what about the keyboard? Is the right column of keys going to be moved and the remaining keys expanded and centered ?

I think a lot of people are waiting for that fix before backing the Indiegogo

Thanks a lot Kendy.

as i commented on the another thread microUSB or USB Type-C only will be useful for charging the device, because you cannot use it for sending data from computer (because is using Windows) using a simple USB Cable. This only can be done using Android.

Now, there is must to be fixed (almost) the L3 an R3 buttons

Nothing wrong with repeated change as long as it continues to improve the device and you listen to community feedback, change the keyboard design and you guys will have soooooo many more backs, guaranteed.

This is good news, thank you for listening to your customers!

If possible, if we can have both (USB Type A + USB Type C) that would be great, if space is available.

Like Vic also said earlier too, many people including myself are waiting gladly to support the Win, but it's conditional on that critical change to the keyboard. The picture below from GPD's Indiegogo provides the clearest example on how impracticable the alphabetical keyboard on the Win is for the right thumb.

I agree.  At a minimum, consider moving one of the two vertical rows on the right to the left side to better center the keyboard.

I agree.  At a minimum, consider moving one of the two vertical rows on the right to the left side to better center the keyboard.

That....could actually be an easier change for GPD than any of the others. It still would not be ideal, but at the very least the keyboard would be centered.
Still...having the power button, Start/Select, and L3/R3 buttons in the keyboard area is the worst idea they've came up with. They're almost guaranteeing that no one will be using those buttons during gaming.
My guess is that someone on the design team saw a gaming keyboard with macro keys and decided that it would be cool to copy that design for the gaming handheld, while replacing the macro key idea with Power and gamepad buttons.

Again for l3 and r3 the most important, critical thing is you can reach them while using their respective analog sticks, which is totally mission impossible on the GPD XD .

left analog left, l3 other side of handheld, great. Improvement over XD. I would prefer R3 to be somewhere on left side of GPD win, but given you don't usually have to *keep* it pressed (for running like with L3) it's okay there.

I agree the keyboard will not be very good for long typing sessions with this layout. But I think l3 and r3 during gaming will not be a problem, altough the location in the mockups might look very strange indeed and I understand everyone's anxiety, I think l3 and r3 will be quite okay when you get used to gaming on it.

But the thing is too expensive for my tastes anyway.

I have to say, the fundraising is going like a space shuttle launch! they have 7.5 of 8 weeks left and are on 336% ... and it actually seems to be accelerating (the rate with which they rake in $$$) I mean just yesterday after 4 days Kendy was happy he had 55 preorders, now there are 120....
