What would be cool if Pyra creator Michael and GPD did a collaboration together. Just imagine an Android/Linux/Windows handheld. I think a lot of people would purchase and support this. Take the best of both handhelds and fix/update them a little.

It wouldn't work.
ED and the PYRA team are awesome people.
GPD are scammers.

GPD Win and Smatch Z is not a football team so that you can root for one and have to passionately hate the other. You can have both, love both for what they are, and you don't have to preach to the other 'team' how stupid they are for being 'others'. Seriously, if you have a problem, say it. Did GPD murder your dog or what?

@jimboton

You're absolutely correct.  Adding that to the OP as well.

It's the same with all the devices of this kind, trust me.
I remember, a long time ago, I preordered the Open Pandora, and waited years and nothing. When I asked for a refund, no responses. I had to ask multiple times to finally get my money back.
You can say GPD are scammers, but they delivered the product. Even if it's rushed on some points, I agree with you.

I just hope if there is a Win2, they put a blower above the CPU to expel the heat.  This thing gets too hot.

Intel has stopped making newer Mobile based 4W atoms such as the Cherrytrails Z8700 in our GPD WIn devices. The newer ones are only coming in as 11W mainly meant for desktop machines. So I doubt a version 2 of GPD Win will be here any time soon unless AMD or an equivalent can provide something of the same power requirements.

Core M3 7y30 is about the same TDP. A lot more expensive, but also way more powerful.

dual independently adjustable fans, or at least have the intake and exhaust at opposing sides to run the air across more surface area, as well as have it draw in cooler air, not the warmer exhausted air right back in.

heat destroys lithium batteries, so moving the battery behind the screen would definitely help in the long run, although dual batteries would also be nice

having multiple tiers would be great too, someone wants to pay extra for the core chip? give the option, not going to be able to stick user upgrade able sockets in systems this small, but at least it's the next best thing

my old Sony UMPC has the battery externally, which of course allowed them to release an extended capacity battery, the battery becomes a handle of sorts on the side of the system, so that's another option

do a little research on these SKUs
https://ark.intel.com/products/codename/80644/Apollo-Lake#@Mobile

TDP on these Apollo's are 6W. The Cherrytrails are SDP of 2W, which will throttle between 1W (Idle) -3W (Turbo). Apollolakes are still twice as power hungry. The M3-7Y30 is no better with a TDP of 7W

https://ark.intel.com/products/95598/Intel-Celeron-Processor-N3350-2M-Cache-up-to-2_4-GHz
http://ark.intel.com/products/95449/Intel-Core-m3-7Y30-Processor-4M-Cache-2_60-GHz-

It may "work" if they decide to pump the screen size up to 7" and increase the battery to 10,000mah maybe. Although the price difference is somewhat going to be a possible hurdle with the Z8700 rrp to be $37 vs the N3350 of $107 and m3 7y30 as $281..

You are comparing SDP values to TDP values. The SDP values will be naturally lower, but also very misleading. http://www.theverge.com/2013/1/9/3856050/intel-candid-explains-misleading-7w-ivy-bridge-marketing
The Z8700 has a 2W SDP but a 4W TDP, that's closer to the 7W TDP of the Core M than what you think. As for the price: yes, it's expensive - now. Look at how you could get a ~$350 Core M tablet from Cube, Teclast and Chuwi only 6 months after the release of the Core M line with those insane prices.

I love the GPD Win design as is. The only thing I wish it had was a built in camera and 128gb of storage.
Maybe a swivel screen to turn it from the clamshell gameboy into a mini tablet too. That would be cool.
