GPD Win 2 battery issue (Fixed)
« on: April 12, 2020, 09:38:54 am »
My GPD Win 2 doesn't want to power on any more because of a battery issue.

The battery seems to be fully charged. At least that is what Windows 10 shows me and the red charging led doesn't blink any more when I connect my GPD Win 2 to the charger.

I've tried to disconnect the battery but that made no difference. Still shows 100% charged and doesn't want to power on.

The only way right now is to power it on with the charger connected. As soon as I disconnect the charger the GPD Win 2 powers off. With that I mean no more power to keep it running.

My question is if anyone else is having this issue and if replacing the battery is going to fix this?

Maybe your battery is starting to bloat?

The battery looks just fine. No physical damage visible.

Also no slow degradation. It went from working fine to no longer working very fast.  ???

Oh, I see. Well, I guess it's time to order a new battery then :)

The new battery should arrive tomorrow. The old battery is already removed so I've tried to power one the GPD Win 2 without a battery and can confirm that it does work without one.

With that said it would be nice to have a good power supply (like a power supply for a laptop) to use with the GPD Win 2. Not sure if that's possible because I've got no idea what charger it needs. The only charger I've got right now that does work is the one that came with it.

If you have a Nintendo Switch, use that charger. That's what I use.

I ordered one of these chargers: https://i-tec.cz/nl/produkt/charger-c112w-8/

New battery is installed. I can power my GPD Win 2 back from the battery and it seems to work just fine except that Windows 10 does give me a no battery detection warning.  ::)

Fixed it. For some odd reason it didn't want to detect the new baatery whatever I tried.

Fixed it by reconnecting the old battery and boot my GPD Win 2 from the charger. It did detect my old battery.
Removed the old battery and reconnected the new one. Booted my GPD Win 2 again with the charger connected and this time it did find the new battery.  :)

I can also confirm that the power supply that I ordered mentioned in my previous post wroks fine with the GPD Win and GPD Win 2.  8)
