GPD Pocket 2 with upgraded m3-8100y CPU listed at Geekbuying?
« on: December 06, 2018, 12:32:41 pm »
Did GPD just upgrade the pocket 2 CPU to the m3-8100y?
Just seen this listing at geekbuying:

https://www.geekbuying.com/item/GPD-Pocket-2-Gamepad-Intel-Core-m3-8100y-8GB-128GB-Silver-411370.html

So does that mean that the WIN 2 will get the same upgrade?

If anyone knows how to contact GPD and ask them directly it would be huge.

As far as I know only is for pocket 2. 8100y is just better in single core performance, in dual core is just a 5/10 percent in CPU. not a huge upgrade.

Any boost in performance is welcome especially when you try to squeeze every drop of FPS in games.
Might not be a huge upgrade but newer hardware is usually better supported with drivers.
So is this thing legit?

Drivers are the same, since GPU is the same and also runs at the same clocks. In fact intel has released a universal driver for all their GPU from 6th generation processors. Pc games rely on GPU, so you won't get a great increase in that, just 1-2 fps in games that are more CPU dependant. I guess GPD will use 8100Y if they cannot find stock for the current one but won't a big difference, just a very small one.

I assume GPD's just doing this "upgrade" to respond to the One Mix Yoga 2S and so they'll have one production line already set to use the newer chip since it seems there are shortages for the 7Y30. They'll probably go through all their remaining stock of the 7Y30 with the Win 2 before switching that production line over to the 8100Y as well like when they "upgraded" the Win 1 to the Z8750.

If i thought the win2 could handle a beefier cpu, even more so than the 8100y, i'd look into it. i'm already considering upgrading to 16GB of ram by doing a ram-chip upgrade, i even found compatible chips, and since the bios is totally open, it'd be pretty easy

I'd just need a professional that does BGA reballing, 4x 4GB ram modules, and a stencil.

Very nice!
Any idea if they update the WIN 2 with this CPU?

Any performance gain at all?

Did some research and this CPU has  a 50mhz boost on the GPU, not much but should perform better in gaming, how much better is the big question.
Wouldnt mind seeing this in a updated Win 2 with the configurable TDP.

Review of the One Note Mix 2S which is very similar to the GPD Pocket 2 but has its own neat features that?s a convertible also shows it gaming over the old model:
