External monitor issues - black borders
« on: July 30, 2017, 07:05:45 pm »
Hello all,

I'm trying to run some games to a 1080p external monitor via hdmi. I'm having some issues. I am getting black borders around most games - namely, Fallout 3, New Vegas, Mortal Kombat Komplete and Black Ops. The Binding of Isaac is the only game so far i've gotten to work.

I am running in extended mode, with the external as my primary monitor. Running at 1280x720 and scaling up to full screen. The games open with black borders around them, centering them.

If I switch the external display res to 1920x1080 and the game res to 1920x1080 everything works but of course I can't do that. Has anyone else experienced this

You might have to change settings in the Intel HD control panel with advanced settings to full screen scaling.
But I'm no expert and don't have a win just going by past experiences and memory.

Are you running it on a TV? TV-s do this when they don't recognize the resolution as a standard one. You can fix the size by selecting "customize aspect ratio" and adjusting the sliders instead of picking "scale full screen".

That was it! Thanks mdoc. I switched to "Maintain display scanning" and it works perfectly.
