Author Topic: Faulty XD? My DPad is horrible. (Read 6616 times)

As a quick test, i ran SFA III which came with teh stock XD 32gig blue. its extremely difficult to jump diagonally (without mashing the dpad diagonally) and throwing fireballs or dragon punching is literally impossible. Its trivial with teh joystick (thank god, but not what i want). Do i have a defective XD, or is this literally the quality of the dpad? I will post a video shortly so people can see im not exaggerating.

Well, it's mushy, but the diagonals are excellent and consistent and its responsive.

But the problem is this is all subjective, so I really can't tell if it's the same as mine without testing your unit

I think you do, because all those moves are (too) easy to pull off with the d-pad.

Nice, so, I seriously have to press too hard, this would be completely unusable in contra or any shooter requiring diagonals. Im hoping its a software issue somehow, but i doubt it, all things considered. uploading a video now.

Well, then, you are first person with *that* issue... but it reminds me of my g5a. same problem. Probably can be modded - dpad probably presses on something which might not be properly seated. Otherwise, use the analog. It's really good and it saves having to sent it back for repair...

My Dpad is mushy but it functions just fine.

dpad pivot stick is too short, Im looking for a replacement now. I "modded" mine by squishing the pole to get a little extra length, and using the soft rubber screw cap to give it a little extra length and pad it to prevent it from bending now that its weaker. Definitely not going to work long term with a lot of quarter circles, but i can pull of moves now. The joystick tester required a hard press of both sides to register a diagonal before, now i can softly get it to register. I have some old wii-motes laying around, one of those dpads may be useable for this project.

XD dpad is very accurate. If you can not move successfully when play ARCADE games, we believe that is caused by the emulator. XD built-in arcade simulator can not support dpad. You can try the arcade games from chicken simulator.

Interested in hearing if you come up with a solution. D-pad needs to be responsive for fighting games IMO

some video review say xd dpad is small. w/c is smaller compared to vita dpad?

It's exactly the same size as the one on 3DS/3DS XL...which means it's very slightly smaller than the Vita's d-pad.

I purchased 2 XDs, the dpad on one is bad, diagonals in any direction are very difficult to pull off. The other works quite well, and isn't quite as "mushy" as the first.

That just goes to prove that no all d-pads are the same and that the manufacturing of the GPD XD has inconsistent QC.
