xd_v3.3.6.img Firmware 3.3.6
« on: March 24, 2017, 07:34:43 pm »
I was considering making a tut on the second method of upgrading, but I am realizing that firmware 3.3.6 doesn't seem to have an upgrade utility app installed. So my questions are:

Is the batch tool the only option for this firmware?
How many firmwares for gpd do not come with upgrade utility app?
What firmwares did you guys have once you bought your gpd, from where, and when did you buy?

I just want to get an idea if there are any more gpds out there that have 3.3.6 right out of the box. This way I can prepare a tut for them just in case. I only installed it because it was the lowest firmware available, all for tutorial purposes.

- anywho thnx in advance guys.

I think the update app was introduced in 3.4.0 or so. Most units come now with 3.4.7. Mine was 3.2.0 or so because it was a first batch unit.
Anyhow, if someone is in a old firmware like 3.3.6 or so, just putting update.img in sdcard detect the firmware and system asks to upgrade, so no batchtool needed for all firmwares. Batchtool is useful is something goes wrong though or to unbrick it.

ah i see it now. Just gave me the message. So no update UI, it just picks it up automatically.

question skelton: I installed cwm with 3.3.6 stock. The update method using update.zip or update.img on external_sd doesn't work without the android recovery. Is there a way around this? CWM starts up on the reboot and the update doen't go through.

Most probably the stock firmware needs stock recovery

I have been flashing using batch tool and also the update.img method and it seems like I get 100% results on batch tool but upgrading through update zip/img gives maybe 50/50 results. I am not sure if it because I was using CWM and it left some residual files or something but It seems like it isn't as reliable. Is it just me or is this the case with others?

I personally always prefer BatchTool. Via sdcard works fine too, but it's a dirty flash, so some files from internal memory remain.

Ok. Personally I am not going to bother making a video for the update.img method. i am just not comfortable with having people use that method. Its best to use batch tool and have backups with CWM.
